Title: St. Lucia/Vidal fishing
Post by: Cam Mundy on December 20, 2010, 10:13:24 AM
Hi all we've been in St. Lucia the last 3 days and have launched twice so far from the St. Lucia beach. The surf has been prety mild although the sand banks are impossible to see with the brown water flowing out the umfolozi at full steam due to all the rain Zululand has been having.

The sea has been a bit lumpy but fishable for the bigger boats with lots of Dorado coming out but bugger all else strangely enough we are  only getting females (dorries) in the 6 - 8kg range with the bigger males proving a bit difficult although we have seen them.
tomorrow we're gonna launch at Vidal and head up to Oscars to chase Hoo's and Couta and with a bit of luck Sailfish.
The beach donkey has performed to expectations although the modifications aren't going to end soon (which is half the fun I suppose)

The one thing I forgot to mention was I discovered a new technique for extracting hooks, when my little brother stepped on a treble while fighting a Dorrie. He sunk the hook quite nicely into his big toe all the way to the bend of the hook shank.
The actual technique involves waiting for the Dorrie to put on it's aerial display wait for the yells of excitement then yanking the sucker out wth a pair of long nose pliers while said patient is distracted.
The most important part is packing the offending tackle away so the victim doesn't know it was your rod and trace that caused the injury in the first place. w;k

Murray the younger brother Rory is the Vernerable Elder

We launched at Vidal today after waiting for an hour + at the gate for the line of cars to get processed. The backline was pretty big but we had plenty of space to run as the bay is nice and deep again a word of warning though the pole that acts as the marker at the end of the ledge is a bit shaky and at about a serious angle making it very difficult to spot when returning on a high tide with big surf

Best fish of the day was a 10kg Hoo caught by yours truly
