Hello everyone,
I'm planning a trip to Durban Beach around June, and I would also like to go fishing there. I’d like to ask if there’s anything I should be aware of, and what kinds of fish can be found in that area. Thank you!

Come on Durban people, help the man out here!

Phil, I see you are from the USA... if you're not familiar with fishing in South Africa, I would recommend that you hire a guide wherever you plan to fish. There are areas in KZN where it is downright unsafe to go fishing alone, from a criminal perspective. Visit one of the tackle shops and ask their advice about safety and local conditions before you go anywhere. Don't take a chance.

HI, safe areas to fish will be Ushaka beach and Umhlanga lighthouse.early season shad and garrick should be around

Durban beach front is a sandy bottom, so no reef fish. You can expect to catch snapper salmon and shad mostly during the day and at night the odd skate and dusky shark.
The beach fishing is really not good, as mentioned in previous posts, rather move a little further up the coast to Umhlanga for better prospects
