Title: Knots using single strand titanium wire

I'm keen to know whether anyone is using the single strand titanium wire as a bite leader and your experience with the knots. I've tried the following:-


For the wire to swivel end... Two turn fig 8; this works fine and no issues here. One has got to get used to setting this knot correctly though, otherwise this can be a mission. The clinch knot can also be used here but I find the fig 8 to be a lot more elegant.


For the wire to fluoro end... option 1.  Single overhand knot on wire to two turn fig 8 on fluoro - this breaks on the single overhand knot every time though I must admit using some unscientific testing and a fair amount of force.


For the wire to fluoro end... option 2. Various combinations of the albright knot - I must say I have a lot more confidence with this as the results are good and fairly consistent though some experienced guys prefer option 1. My experience with option 1 is that if the single overhand knot on wire is not done to perfection a weak point is created here where the wire "cuts" into the fluoro. The other issue I believe is that you have the two turn fig 8 knot of the fluoro pulling against the single overhand wire knot putting undue pressure at this point.


I was thinking of trying the slim beauty or a few others I've seen on youtube but haven't got around to this yet. I know of a few experienced guys having turfed the entire roll in frustration.

I use the Albright special on all my trolling/drifting rigs.... never had a failure.... pulled some big pelagics and sharks... quick and easy


I usually use 80 Lb mono and nr 5-7 AFW piano wire...

Seen this video and this is how I join Fluoro to single strand AFW wire and it works like you say. 25Lb Titanium wire to 40LB Mono is the problem child when trying to tie really small knots for the skittish Natal Snoek (Queen Mackeral) but will try with a few more wraps.

Been through this tutorial and was hoping to find the Fluoro/Mono to wire connection not using a swivel. Will stay with the Modified Albright for now. There are a few variations of this which all work reasonably well. The Alberto knot also works well but a little more bulky than the standard Albright.

Hey Aunty Harold, you know we don't use wire on our spoons.Old South Pier ballie  like you should know that. I'm one of those that tossed that shite in the bin. Anyway we don't use wire where I live and fish now. :gljn:
