Title: Spinning in the garden route
Post by: Oceanmad on February 22, 2023, 07:30:14 PM
Hi Guys
I have moved from Durban to Mosselbay about 5 years ago. I am 60 years young and have decided to do the artificial lure fishing instead of having to carry half a tackle shop with me like i used to. I have read Reefmans brilliant post about reading the sea and it looks like many kilometres needs to be walked on this coastline. My problem is that i know of maybe 2 guys spinning in the surf in the Mosselbay area. Am i wasting my time or do i need to travel to Stillbay, Wilderness etc?

Hi,Oceanmad, there are a couple of places to spin in your area..The Kleinbrak and Gouritz rivers can produce Leervis,Kob,Grunter and Elf,little further away is the Sedgefield(Swartvlei I think it's called) lagoon too...Certain days at Fransmanshoek(Die saal)deliver catches of big Leeries and I've even seen Bonnies being caught there..From the beach I'm sure you'll get Elf and Kob at night/early mornings if they're around...Then there's a spot behind the harbour where catches of Yellowtail have been made...So I'd say try..you might be pleasantly surprised..Just be carefull fishing alone nowadays, especially Dias beach..try to take a fishing buddy with if possible..Die Saal is also a dangerous deepwater spot not to be fished alone..the tackleshops are also good places to get some local info at.. :tite
