The Mozambique council of ministers, approved on 17 Dec 2019, the Area de Proteccao Ambiental de Maputo (Maputo Environtal Protection Area), that includes the Ponta do Ouro Partial Maine Reserve, the Maputo Special Reserve and Inhaca Island, as well as portions of the Matutuine district.
The APA has an area of + 6 000 km2 and extends 18 nm due East and 3 nm in the bay.
Hopefully no more legal longliners and trawlers!!!!
I'm busy lobbying for the A-B line to be pushed a few nm north so it can include Baixo Danae... keep checking for more news...

:yipee: what good news . but the trawlers will poach anyway . :toppie:

On the do's and don'ts some people might say "Do what you like , Don't get caught.

Would this have any implications for the upcoming Racetech/GoFish jetski comp at Ponta next month ?

The area will have a general spatial development plan and specific areas (Ponta MPA, MSR, etc), might have specific management plans. The general plan will have to be ready by end of the year. This plan is supposed to account for all development in the area including social, tourism, commercial, etc.
One thing I know heard it from the minister himself): no large-scale industrial fishing will be allowed nor that bloddy port.
There are plans to manage Ponta town with a hand-of-iron.... a visitors quota system is being considered. Private cars will be regulated, no quad bikes, etc...
Will keep you guys posted.

For some people, this has been the work of a lifetime (trying to do research, capacity-building and fight for the conservation of this beautiful part of the world).
A lot of good, competent people have put their heart and soul in this dream project.... I heard similar things when the Ponta MPA was proclaimed. Now, 10 years later I think the results show for themselves. Is it perfect? NOT in a million years!!!
All we can do is try, try and keep on trying and give our best shot... and very bit of support counts.... including yours!
