Title: Strip Bait Rig

I have a few small Konas that I want to rig for strip bait, I have been making a ''Snoek'' type trace with piano wire, but not really happy with the results.


The wrap around the shank and back through the eye is untidy, any suggestions as to what to do as an an alternative to piano wire? I have been using 6 & 10 piano wire maybe 6 is to light and 10 is to heavy? suggestions are welcome

Strip baits are the easiest and simplest to rig... very efficient...

I use a bait spring to make it snug and fit... otherwise, bait cotton

that looks like just mono tied to the hook, so no wire?

Yebo... depending on the target species.... I usually have some SS wire (flexible, not piano) after the kona's head.... look for the Pakula swivel rig... to make sure I don't get bitten off by wahoo ou couta...

the Konas that I have are small maybe 5-6'' long so I will experiment

Hey Dodger I have come up with a great system I've been using the past few seasons on small plastics, I use 200lb nylon coated steel, I did a tutorial as part of my dorado write-up on this thread:

why dont you just use a 180 deg hook rig and tie the strip to the cable ?

yep can do that on the larger Konas, it is the small ones 5-6'' that are giving me a problem

I have been messing aboot with different options and rigged with some 0.9mm stainless MIG wire, not perfect yet but I think it will work, the hook is far too big for the small Kona in the background but I will try to scale it down
