What brand does everyone use? I have been using Mustad big game and on the smaller konas Mustad Siwash Tuna hook what does everyone use?
-
I've been using mustad 95160 but I'm replacing all to mustad 7691 (had a chance to get them at a decent price from overseas)...
...they are quite expensive in the 6/0, 7/0 and 9/0 sizes
people here in Maputo tend to use the mustad 7732...although recently they were adviced to either downsize on the hook size (I've seen for more then once Reefman saying a big hook will catch big fish...a small hook will catch any fish) or change the hook shape to a less open hook...my choice went for 7691

I use whatever I can get my hands on... most important thing.... it must be sharp! No point in using expensive branded hooks with blunt points!!!!
Lately, the Mustad Hoodlum has been my favourite for smalls konas and rappies (6/0 - 10/0).... they are available locally, quite strong, wide gap, very sharp and relatively cheap. And yes.... they catch fish!!!! Ticks all my boxes! :-)

Thanks chaps, I'm looking at the 7691. I have been trying to get a price on the Paluka Dojo hooks they must be bluddy expensive. anyone use them?
-
those were my first option...but they are indeed too expensive
-
also try and have a look at the dozer grander needle eye or the hays needle eye...they in the same line as the black bart pa'a hooks (sorry...this were the ones I really wanted to get my hands on...rather then the Pakula you mentioned before)
-
I settled on the Pakula Dojo Hooks, Shackles and keel weights. The hooks are a 40 & 35 gape
-
are those hooks barbless or did you trim the barb?

They have barbs, it is just the camera angle
