Title: Beach casting in Port Gentil, Gabon
Post by: zamarlin on January 20, 2015, 04:43:17 PM
Good afternoon

I caught the barracuda in the video below on 17lb GOSEN braid, 30lb fluorocarbon leader, an 8' Daiwa Exceler rod, Daiwa Oceano 4500J and #1 CID Couta Casting in Pink Flash.  15 minutes fight time and fish was released.

Here the last bit of the fight - http://youtu.be/pMG-K3y7vOc (http://youtu.be/pMG-K3y7vOc)

Here the release - http://youtu.be/KDK2js8uKZ4 (http://youtu.be/KDK2js8uKZ4)

Thank you Charles. We fish the top end and bay side of a peninsula so are sheltered from surf.  Water is mid to upper 20's Celsius and is very clear there.

zamarlin Are the Tarpons on your bucket list? I believe there are some monsters lurking in that waters. The stuff that dreams are made of.

I definately am after tarpon.  They eluded me for a decade in Angola and I have hooked one here on a chisel nose plug, but it bent a treble hook and after regurgetating a 12' half decomposed mullet which took the treble out, I lost it.  The guys with boats who bait fish have been getting tarpon lately with specimens of up to 40 kg being released in the last few weeks. They are certainly here right now.

Got this jack cravelle on the week end on 30 lb braid and it took me 50 minutes to get it to the beach.
