Well,
After the cold front came through yesterday the wind dropped to around 20km/h.
5:30 found me next to the water with temp around 8C with the wind chill a bit less.
Just after sunrise I started casting.
Gear used this morning...
Rod - Black Hole Cape Cod 10.6 L
Reel - Sustain 6000 loaded with Sufix 832 30lb
Lure - Jigstar Starwalker 140F
The fish hit me about 10min later and gave me those normal strong runs she came in turned at the rocks and out she go again...
Then she came in to the left of the rocks with a floating boom and a bunch of building rubble in the water...
I ran down the rocks fighting to keep her head clear of obstructions she swam against a rebar rod but the 50lb floro leader held and then I was able to beach her...
Hart stopping stuff and a awesome fight.
At 109cm and 10.2kg she is now my PB Cuta or Spanish Mackerel ...

How long is your wire bite trace? Joining to leader with an Albright?

Greg, while you were away, we chatted about this here... http://www.ultimateangling.co.za/index.php?topic=19151.msg326138#msg326138 (http://www.ultimateangling.co.za/index.php?topic=19151.msg326138#msg326138)

Awesome fish Gerhard!

Ok cool, that is interesting. When I was in peurta vallata we referred the Spanish as a similar species to our queen macks, and the serra the same.
Never stop learning here! !
-
Great catch, well done. :resp:

Thanks guys,
Hardest work is pulling the skin off the fish...
Awesome fillets that I have distributed around the compound.
There is gonna be a bunch of people enjoying fresh fish today.
-
Lovely fish G, and even better for being off the stones! Congrats ou maat!
-
Gerhard, I don't even want to open your posts and look at your photo's anymore. It is just not fair. :cnfzd
Well done, and congratulations with your PB !
-
Hehehe
Carll,
I am working finally on the casting ratio...
Its still 3000 odd casts for a fish here from the rocks.
With the water just below 20C they are still around and I need to make some more casts tomorrow morning again...
With the cold front that moved in water temp might fall and the fish move out.
Last year this time the water temp was around 17.5C here

Well done Gerhard, you have put in the effort and reaped the rewards :cout: :cout: :cout: :happ:

I appreciate it that you enjoy the catch with me.
