Here's a report on the Transkei with awesome friends, good laughs and rough seas!!!
It all started with a bang on Thursday morning Landcruiser loaded and ready for the slow drive to Mpame we agreed to meet in the little town of Tarkastad meet and greet and head to the wildcoast in convoy. Everyone was on time and we packed and was ready of the journey.....as I walked from behind my cruiser to get in I discovered a absolute horror...my left backspring is hanging badly to one side had a look and it was my Ubolt that broke and my whole spring (11pack) was hanging on one Ubolt. It was just before 07:00 everyone started phone everyone in the district of Tarkastad who has a cruiser to see if anyone has a spare Ubolt, but no one had one...by then I was really miserable and then a farmer drove past us and he said he'll help us ( he's got a small tire repair shop in town but has everything in it even a boat :hehe: we found in a pile of spare a Ubolt but it was too short but we made a plan with threaded rod and welded it together and it fit perfectly!! so off we went finally after about a hour!
We arrived at Cameron Edwards place Bulls inn just after lunch and we had a quick bite and off to the water to be greeted by a dead sea not even little peckers we head back and had a couples of ice cold beers beers were cold and a early night. Next morning we went out on Cameron's boat, Inkunzi, to see if we could get a pull from a poenskop or two but the water temperate was to cold so we got a couple of dageraad soldiers and my mate hooked a big poenskop but lost it due to the fact that he manhanded it with a scarbour reel. My poor mate also got so seasick and we went back and had some lunch and a siesta at midday getting ready for a afternoon seccion with the light tackle spinning and dropshot.
We drove along the beach to the river next to mbolompo point and it was pushing tide and saw the river was passable so we went through and parked on the beach and walked to Mbolompo point on the western side as we got there Cameron's son , Blake just lost a Garrick on dropshot so I threw a 2oz chisel nose plug with my Berkley 10ft AMG and Shimano Exage 4000 with 20lb braid and had a chase immediately but did not connect, had 3 chases but they didn't touch my plug, then my mate next to me hooked a Garrick on his plug but lost it quickly. A Garrick chased my mates plug four time in his retrieve with the last swirl I saw its dorsal fin cleanly and could see it was a seriour fish so I changed my lure to a dubble slim spoon and had a couple of casts and slowed my retrieve way down for cob and all of a sudden 20m in front of me as my spoon came up on a wave a saw this big splash on the top and my reel screaming!! it just kept on going and going and at first I thought today im going to get spooled!! luckly after gently turning the Garrick I got some line back and moving down the rocks to the bay played it for about 25minand got it close to the shore.....then a nightmare my braid got hooked around a rock in the shollows 20m in luckly one of Blakes friends Foxy was there with me all the time spotting for me and giving advise, dove in and untangled my line and he tried grabbing the Garrick twice but it slipped out of his hand, so with one gentle pull with a wave I gabbed him by my feet and just screamed out with joy! I my hands I held the most beautiful Garrick ive ever seen 94cm!! I took it back to my mate to show them and got a couple of nice pics and revived it in a pool and released it safely to fight another day!
It was a awesome fight and lots of pats on the back and smiles around no one got any other pull so we headed back.
Next day we woke up to rough seas and cold water so we tried the river but due to heavy rains the passed week got no luck! We went back to Mbolompo for some sharks and got nice pulls my mate len got his raggie out of about 120kg and mine twisted my steel off after it was rolling in the shallows Len hooked another big raggie and gave our mates each a chance to feel the deep burn but lost it close by.
It was a unbelievable weekend and friendships and stories and laughter rounded it all off! oh and by the way that Ubolt lasted it into the Transkei and back and im still driving with it!!

Nice report and well done on some good fish. The weather has been horrible of late and sea rather mixed up.
Out of interest, How did you guys get to drive on the beach? As far as I am aware, only driving allowed is for the Mpame lasunch site, definatly not along the beach to Mbolompo? Ban on beach driving is a national law with almost ZERO exemptions.
