Title: What size Chiller do you use ???

Hey guys,


Looking to get a new chiller, just want to be certain off the size.


This will be used for a full days fishing. My thinking was the 18lt as i can carry some water etc in it ? Just dont want it to be too heavy should I decide to pack up and move on !


Whats your take ?

12 liter is the way to go can get enough bait in there for a day even the 8 liter is good.

well what i do is take the small one with bait for most of the day, and keep the big one in the car with the drinks and extra bait...

Homes, don't make the mistake that so many guys do and get an 18l.... you WILL sukkel carrying it! Those big coolers are a big mission... especially when you have to walk far... I've seen plenty recreational anglers curse those 18l chillers... you need to be very fit to lug one of those around.

I use a 20lt when I am carrying whole yellow tail, then there is still space for some whole chocca and some mackies

I also have a 12lt which i use for some mackies, pilles, some chokka, and a few packets of pink prawn

So a 12lt i think is pretty versatile and like the guys said easy to carry around

I learned my lesson the hard(heavy), long, sweaty way , as small as possible.
But then again colt drivers just drive up to the spot they want to fish, walk 50m to the spot, drink beer and fish  :pot:

I think thats the right way to go Homie ... I use a 12L when I know that I'll be doing a lot of walking and an 18L if I'll be more stationary. Hope that helps.

can you fit yellowtail and big chokkas in the 12 or isnt it as long?

I had 3x 900gram yellowtails in my 20ltr, not as long as the 18ltr, but bigger volume and i still had to bend there tails to fit inside, so i don't see how they would fit in a 12ltr unless you cut them in 2

If you cut the tails off they fit perfectly. If you prep your baits night before, you can actually cut them in half as well...
