I had to share this picture of a yellowtail of 60cm that I caught this morning in the Ballito area on a Chase S Bend spoon. Have been spinning for a number of years and this is my first yellowtail so am really stoked as I can add another species to the list.

What a great catch, I cant say I have ever heard of them coming out from the beach regularly anywhere in KZN especially not near Ballito, and must be quite a rare catch from the shore.
Well done :rck"

Cape St Francis at the light house and St Francis point is two spots were they comes out from time to time. Back in the good old days one guy manege two yellow tails in two cast at the light house on Cape St Francis. It was frunt page on the Tight Lines. I did not think they will come out from shore in KZN.

Theres one Specific Guy , Which name I can never recall , who use to be an expert in spinning for big Yellowtail from the surf in that area ST Francis , them on big Nylon plugs and Spoons .
We use to be amazed at the way he fished , he sat looking for them , and if he made 10 casts in one session it was alot , and out those 10 casts he use to hook up atleast 6 times , not always landing them though...

Nice fish well done, seeing all type of game fish being caught from the shore lately.
-
Well done, I remember a mate of mine Lemon (Aqua acadamy) catching one on a cuta trace off Lugs a couple of years ago, I think it was a 17 kg fish. I only know them in the cape and on the wreck and big reef of the KZN South coast :resp: (clap)

Awesome catch !!!

Well done...Great catch ! :win:
-
well done buddy :cgrts:
-
Awesome catch! Congratulations! Please share kit used - rod, reel, braid?
-
Thanks for all the comments.
Cage I think I may have posted setup before. The rod is a Shimano Lesath coupled with a Stradic 5000FJ. The reel is spooled with 40lb Gator Braid backing with 0.2mm Berkley Nanofil on top. I then tie about a 7m leader using a modified cats paw (bimimi to bimimi) with about 1,5meters of fluorocarbon to a power swivel. Spoons / lures are attached to swivel with split rings.
I caught this fish on a Chase S Bend spoon. I had removed the colour sticker as the water was quite clear (not crystal clean) and the sun was reasonably bright. I like the silver flash that scraped white metal gives off in clean water with bright light.
