Spoiling myself to a rare afternoon off , I ran into the Mias sale with a new fly rod in mind. After a half an hour or so of mock casting and fiddling with every 5wt in the shop I settled on the Greys XF2 . Very pleased with myself and the new rod I raced home to get some flies to test my new baby out , destination Brookwood trout farm.
After a quick pit stop at home I valve bounced my Jamie up the hill to Brookwood arriving at around 3pm. Within minutes I was set up and standing next to the water . Stripped some line and the first cast was off . Casting loops I have never managed before .
There was a lot of activity on the water and it was clear that the dam had recently been stocked . I directed my Olive Woolly bugger in the direction of a small waterfall water inlet and with one hell of a splash went vas on my first fish on the new rod . ( Now for those who don’t know a Trout is probably in the same fighting league as an Shad , with the difference you catching them with a rod as thick as a pencil and it bends almost double when fighting a fish ). The Trout put up a great fight and after roughly 4 min I had a nice 1.7kg Cock fish on the side .
I made a couple of more casts and with regular intervals landed a couple more nice Trout all over the 1kg mark . Ending with 4 Male Trout and one Hen in a hour and a half fishing.
Canned Trout or Not it was great fun and the new Rod is a beaut !!!!

Nice going Kallie both on the rod and the troooot.
At 85 Rond a kg x at least 6 kg, that turned out to be quite an expensive christening of the new rod. :shk
Hope to see and feel the rod on the Vaal this summer. :clwn
