Could some one please help with good fishing spots around Jongensfontein and Stilbaai, will be on Holiday in that area during September 2010. thanks
-
I'm heading down to Stilbaai next week, Thursday to Sunday! I won't be able to do a lot of fishing, but the missus gave me at least ONE DAY to fish HARD! If there's anyone in the area looking for a fishing partner, let me know! Any updates/reports from the area would also be appreciated. We're staying in the circle right at the end of the road (not crossing the river), so was thinking of targeting mainly cob on the beach with live-bait. Any reports of cob, leervis, cracker etc will be appreciated as well as what conditions tends to favour what species in Stilbaai - I don't know that area too well.

Check out this link. I did an article on Jongensfontein back in 2011 but the info will still be relevant.

Thanks SAFish!! Much appreciated! I will probably fish Jongensfontein in Dec, but looking SPECIFICALLY for Stilbaai spots. Do you know of any similar doc for Stilbaai?
-
No, unfortunately not. Stilbaai is limited to the beach are where you have to look for spots when you are there because it changes all the time. Further to the East is "Preekstoel" but it is the same as the beach, with changing conditions. If you drive all the way down the Western main road you will end up at the harbour area and to the right is a place called "Morris Point". You can fish anywhere along the rocks and especially at the point itself. You might have to wade a bit and be careful of rouge waves. From Morris Point to the West all the way to Bosbokduin (thatch roof houses) and beyond are OK but I like Jongensfontein the best and it is only 10km from Stilbaai. December is normally very busy and not too good for fishing. You can also try in the river for Grunter and Kob but the boats and other river users can be a hassle.
-
Sorry, I forgot to mention, before you fish anywhere go to the harbour and ask the guys at SANparks about the regulations. I know there are a couple of areas that you are not allowed to take out bait and also a restricted fishing area to the East of Preekstoel. I have not fished the area for a while so things might have changed. I am going there later in the month and will see what I can find out.

Looking at the weather this weekend... what wind favours which species? Cob specifically, what wind makes cob fishing off Stilbaai beach better?
-
The beach on the Easterly side , produces big Kob . I would do a Livebait there .
BUT I would also venture to Jongens / Blombos Specifically on the Blombos side of Jongens , theres some serious Crackers there , Generally form what I can remember , most of the rocky areas are Lowtide spots .
cause if the Crakers are this side already , then they would be that side too ...
Know a couple of guys that went down last weekend to Jongens , but have not heard anything from them .
enjoy !

Arrived Thursday with a strong swell and 15kn SW, water was very clean, so decided to leave the cob-idea and look for galjoen at Skulpiesbaai, right under the surfers' bellies! Picked up 4 galjoen in an hour-session, all size with 2 of over 40cm. Kept one for my old man and released the rest to grow nice and big.

On Friday the wind turned East and was howling, making the sea impossibly strong! Had a throw at the same spot but it wasn't fishable, so moved to the harbour wall. Had 2 throws in a gully there and picked up this one right under the noses of some anglers who'd been standing there for hours! sry PS: Size 10 foot

(clap) Well done, Poenie! It seems like you kicked some serious butt. I fished that spot before without success and it just shows you that it is worth trying previous spots that did not deliver.
-
Nice Poenie! What baits did you use?
-
Redbait... I really did not spend much time at the water as it was a social weekend!
-
I'll be there this weekend and will go and have a look if their friends are around? :hnthnt:

Lekker

I will be camping at Ellensrust Caravan park from the 22nd December to the 8th of January 2018, and I look forward to some good :fshn:
I have been doing lots of reading with regards to fishing in Stilbaai/Jongensfontein thanx to the regulars on :ult: !!!!
Spinning for Yellowtail from the ledges is all I know here in the Cape and I was excited to read that spinning for Yellowtail from the side is sure possible in Stilbaai/Jongensfontein....are the chances quite good? Stywe Lyne baba!!!
-
Getting Yellowtail from the bricks are not common and you need to have access to private property to increase your chances. Even then it is not likely. Rather go for Elf and Leeries.
-
Thanks SAfish!! You never seem to disappoint, your knowledge and experience is much appreciated.

Me and mate went to Stilbaai with his family a few years back. We fished under the bridge there by the little "kafee" everynight probably until 22H00 to 23H00. Also fished at the mouth a few times. Hope it is still that safe there.
-
Pretty Safe there Goose, been camping there for the last 10 years, that's during Season of course. Often there are Roadblocks til late at night either side of the bridge when the pubs ect close around 2am.
-
very true, if i recall correct, the police also constantly patrols the roads.

 You are welcome. I am by no means an expert but have fished the area a lot when I lived there in the late 90's.

Good day. I am going to Jongensfontein for a week. I am not really an experienced angler - would appreciate guidance. Would it be possible to still get the pdf from you? Regards
-
Hi,
I am trying to locate the pdf for Jongensfontein. Please assist.
