I have the same problem with Kings. It's so beautiful I can't help myself, have to shop!! Converted one side of garage to fishing tackle, the only problem is I realise I don't have enough(to fill the garage). You still lucky then.

I know a good Laywer :hyst: :hyst: :hyst: :hyst:
Selling your boat is not the answer, I did that and lasted 3 weeks before I bought a replacement and I do miss the old boat.
@ Ziggy - Ooooh there is nothing like a planned fishing excursion, to quadruple your tackle stock holding within days!!
I once got caught at the airport for excess baggage, flying to Zambia to tigerfish....in my suitcase was 23kgs of tackle, a pair of undies.
Everytime I lose a lure I go and buy 2 to take "revenge".I also do that...... :hyst: :hyst: :hyst:

i Have a garage that the wife does not know about:shk :hyst: :hyst:
good advice there!
My strategy is to check what I have before I go to the tackle store and know exactly what I want....however this DOES NOT always work - I still buy way too much.....
In my fishing store room (my wife calls it the "tackle shop annex") there is stuff I have never used and most probably wont use.
I get rid of stuff when I go fishing where there are gillies- and assemble a bag full of goodies for them - which includes old rods and reels
Since using braid, I must admit that I no longer have extra line piling up - and since I now mainly do lure fishing, I dont buy sinkers.
Dont talk to me about flies - I have at least 500.....
However, I still manage to spend a fortune before any big expedition - and com back with tons of unused stuff
I am thinking of therapy...
i Have a garage that the wife does not know about
My tackle was the real reason I bought a Cruiser, purely cause well, you know the story.....

Gents, from an entirely unbiased view point I would like to say... don't fight it! Thats like trying to stop the rain from pouring! No prizes for guessing where you work. (bat :hyst:
I personally dont recommend Chigger's steps but find it far more productive to find and the nearest salesman ask him to show you what's new... :creep:

.......The undies had a tiger pattern, I was going to use them as a teaser :blush:tiger pattern or skid marks :hehe:
Haha classic!! Does trying on woman's clothing count?Nope! Not unless its an Orvis fly fishing vest!
UA ADMIN must see if they cannot start a support group for our better halves that always seem to have issues with our fishing equipment, seriously I don't have a problem, it is merely a problem because she cannot understand the necessity of all the stuff and so i have to hide it and there's the problem.:hehe: My wife does fish from time to time and supports my fishing additiction to an extent. But when I first started fishing, I think she thought "fishing" meant having a rod, a reel, a hook, a lure and some line for all styles of angling. Nowadays she actaually approves of my lures being displayed in the living room but when I talk about visiting a tackle shop, I need to motivate very carefully. :creep:
This thread is not helping :shk It making me think of getting a fix....... Admin please helpJa, Mike. I bought 3 great rods from you many moons ago and I've only used one of them once so far.. duh

The problem is not too much tackle - the problem is that we don't fish often enough to use all the tackle.
OK..... We can call it the tackle game........ He He. Need a few rulz and at how much UA$$$ do we each start with, perhaps UA$1000.00 + your credits = Your starting point. :hehe:
We will also have to define the value of UA$1.00

We all suffer from TA ... the question is: why would you try and find a cure? It's what keeps us going in this mad world....
You guys think you have problems I work for a Tackle shop & charter company I permanently have something on order, waiting to be paid for or recently purchased. Looking at racks of high end Japanese spinning gear and lure's is seriously detrimental to your bank balance.

I think you need to send some care packages my way...
OOook now I'm getting a nervous twitch in my left eye just looking at those rods and not to mention the " wall of rods".....thanks bud for pimping your smack :craz:Shot man, if you look to the right of the pic there's another wall of those bad boys... On my wife's instruction i was sent to the garage to tidy up my tackle after showing her Fritz's latest hook-up....
But awesome rod and reel combo Shaun :envy :happ:
After Shaun pimping his wears just had to go to the tackel shop today and I swear I heard angles sing as I entered and a bright light..... now I know how heaven feels. Is it just me or are other guys out there that when you walk into a tackle shop all the strees and worries disapear ( and your money ). Who needs a Doctor :hehe: :hehe:

Too true, if I ever go to Mias and don't bump into Mike, I sms him to make sure he's OK! :lolo:
What make it worse for me is when your son works for a fishing wholesaler and comes home to show me all the latest things. Just bought a new cupboard for the garage to store all the stuff in :-)
It is winter time...
Fishing has been slow...
Normally I buy all my tackle line / hooks / etc in the off slow season.
So that when summer arives you do not have to run to the shops.
Before i make this trip I normally make a stock count of what I have and what is needed. (Normally this list gets left at home on the big day) So I have to go on memory. Now any new rod / reel on the market have an effect on my memory - what is on the list as well as what is in the bank account.
Now Athur at Fishing Specialist is a lovely man. He treads me with respect - my bank manager hates Athur.
So ja my name is Kingslide and I made a purchase an hour ago (it was not yet on the list)

 had a relapse, found this unused rod (still had the tag through the first eye) in the garage, yes I know it should not even be mentioned!!!! anyhow, I immediately realised that I will need a reel for this new found rod, so I had to buy two new reels and some line and some sinkers and lures and hooks......
Think I need to relinquish this effort of combatting this recurring addiction

Marcos, this thread is not going to help you much!
I suggest you go the whole way and join Alcoholic's Anonymous, or the Lighthouse Mission.
Perhaps you have heard of me and my nationwide campaign in the cause of temperance. Each year for the past fourteen years I have made a tour of South Africa and Mozambique and delivered a series of lectures on the evils of drinking and fishing tackle addiction.
On this tour I have been accompanied by a young friend and assistant, David Powell. David, a young man of good family and excellent background, is a pathetic example of a life ruined by excessive indulgence in alcohol, fishing tackle addiction, and women.
David would appear with me at the lectures and sit on the stage, wheezing and staring at the audience through bleary, bloodshot eyes, sweating profusely, picking his nose, passing wind and making obscene gestures, while I would point him out as an example of what debauchery would do to a person.
Last summer, unfortunately David died.
A mutual friend has referred me to you and I have taken the liberty of observing you for a few years now. In my opinion, you are a natural, and a perfect replacement for David, and therefore I wonder if you would care to take David's place on my next tour.

You can have a chuck with it at the social Homes... I'm still very sceptical that a rod so long will be able to load a 1oz lure. Proof will be in the pudding...I am looking forward to some feedback REEFMAN. I am also tempted to pair one with my Sustain but am a bit sceptical and those rods are a bit pricey.
just have different rods and line colour for each spot
corner blue line
riggers yellow line slightly longer rods 2 inches to clear corner rod tips if all rods are in gunnel rod holders
japan clear
are those 2 silver head lures in the middle legends ???Think they are the Demons.

The lines spooled back to front.... If the reel is on the rod, The lineneeds to come out from the top... Not the bottom..
Hope that makes sense..

Then I'm done with stella's for a while I still want a heavier jigging outfit but I think I'm gonna go conventional with a PE6 Maxel for the rod I'm keen on a Medusa Custom Works Southern Blue 556 but I need to steal a few more Handbags before I can afford it.

Heres a tip guys.
The next time you buy tackle, pay for the cheaper items separately and keep the invoice slip.
Pay for the expensive items and hide that slip.
When you get home, conveniently leave the slip for the cheaper items on the counter top  .
When the wife sees this, she will not panic and probably say "Ag shame. I thought the tackle costs more. You should have bought more"

Aussie lures....
The missus and her mate are going to Adelaide to see her mates Mom who isn't to well, then up To the Sunshine coast north of Brisbane to see more family.
She is taking a big suitcase so there is room for a few 'trinkets' so the questions
Pakula lures come to mind but what is recommended?
Anything other lures that we can't get readily get here
I built these at the weekend.....for a certain trip coming up....
I can do....must admit the sprocket has not been succesfull for me really but cant despute its effectiveness.I built these at the weekend.....for a certain trip coming up....
Too smart... Greg, you planning on doing a lumo type colour?
Went into Basil Manning the other day to pick up a March copy of RSD, only to find they were already sold out.
So instead I got a new Shimano Trevala 7' Light Medium. Its a beauty....
Forgive me father for I have sinned......again.

Haha, eish Shag that is a proper relapse! I see a bit of rigging coming up in your immediate future? Did you go and get the rod we discussed as well?Went into Basil Manning the other day to pick up a March copy of RSD, only to find they were already sold out.

:hyst: Thats proper TA bud!
Shag, are those Owner Jabu hooks? I see you sometimes use them in your lures. I tend to go S/S but hell at 250 per 3 10 mustads they steep.I also prefer stainless, but doing some experimental stuff at the moment. I would say these jobus last 2 seasons. They do corrode even with salt off etc, and they are by no means cheap. Far from it actually. The new jobu comes with a sacrificial anode to assist with corrosion but I am not 100% confinced as yet. But the jobus are fantastic hooks. The best hooks I have used are the hays hooks, they are pricey and a bugger to sharpen but they are super strong and do hold an edge once you get them sharp.
How are those owners against rust? The cost of rigging with cable thimbles etc adds up, and if the hooks wont last a season due to corrosion (no matter how you wash spray etc) its annoying, not to mention the stains on the lures. Aklso if the crimp and hook eye is under shrink wrap you cant see the corrosion.

We've been battling to find the little Yozuri EBA poppers anywhere recently, which is quite disappointing as they're deadly for anything in estuaries. My last one was taken by a pickhandle which I was a tad upset about. Visited Freespool at Gateway earlier and found a couple of the favoured pattern, and plenty other colours, and the best news was that all Yozuri lures were 50% off! So we bought 18. Apparently they dont sell so well......Strange....
Just checked with Basil Manning. They do....shorter butts smaller eyes.....
There is the silver Jobus with that anode already on them but I must say they do rust quite quickly as well.Shag, are those Owner Jabu hooks? I see you sometimes use them in your lures. Owner actually sells an aluminum tape that you apply to your hooks to act as an anode I'm trying it on some of my GT trebles as they are dame expensive and some of them are only made once every 2 years or so I'll let you know how it goes
Thanks Shaun, there is really nothing advertised in the way of tackle shops in OZ
You know you have a tackle addiction problem when you go to to a clothing store and hesitate to pay for a tshirt on sale but would gladly spend 10x that amount on tackle in a flashShivaan a shirt cannot bring as must joy as some new tackle :hehe:

Shivaan a shirt cannot bring as must joy as some new tackle :hehe:
I disagree, If the lady who takes off the shirt is in fine form the tackle can wait. On the other hand tackle only demands minimal maintenance.
Oooops  my name is Half-Pint and its been 2 minutes since my last purchase. Before that I had been clean for 5 minutes or roughly the time it takes to drive between my dealers
Bought myself a dropshot/ estuary bait set up. Knysna is calling! Also bought a clone lure but he looked so lonely so I bought another one :hyst:I heard that some of the clone lures are being "cloned",hope the one I have is a Clone and not a clone...how do one know the difference... :dunno: perhaps my tackleshop only stocks the cloned Clones... :cnfzd in which case I won't buy them anymore... And i am the proud owner of a Penn conflict 8000 :happ:
Greg my first impression the black mat finish is really nice! The over size EVA knob is comfi the braid ready spool makes life abit more easy the drag for a 8000 size reel is great at 30lb also braid capacity is really good for this size reel. And most of all the price is very good for what the reels as to offer hope to test it asap... will be buying another in 5000 size soon :happ:And i am the proud owner of a Penn conflict 8000 :happ:

The range of available skirts for the jet heads is not brilliant, the size of the head where the skirt goes on is 18 mm . I've tried Solly's and WA but they don't have a great range, any ideas where I can get say Yo-zuri skirts from around here?
the urge is getting to me  yet again

Can this brilliant travel boat cover be considered TA? Made by Ben of Coverworx this week while he was in Durban.
I am really pleased with this new one - and very sorry I wasted my money last year on a crappy PVC one made here in Durban - after less than a year, it is all stiff. it is also useless for travelling and weighs much more than the new one.
And the nicest thing this new one is that it quick to put on and tighten up. Fits my boat like a glove
Fantastic!

I think i've been cured.... nothing to report since March :shk
I think this qualifies as "tackle". I will certainly be using this for fishing as well as for work.
Got myself one of these babies... crazy to give it a try...
It felt great to buy some "tackle" :hehe:
I am urgently in need of a fix right now - on my watch list is a Towing vehicle for a 21 ft Butt Cat , Trim and Tilts for the Butt Cat , Tuna and Marlin Tackle , a 15 hp motor for the small boat I got for my son to use in the Poort (a man's got to start with a small boat ) - my only consolation is that he can use some of my old tackle - Hopefully (and not get catch the disease) Look , my wife has always been happy with the fishing story - but she told me the other day that in my life my priorities are all wrong - she said that the rods and reels and boats stand in line before her - I quickly corrected her and told her she cannot be more wrong - first the boat , then the rods... silly woman... :billf:
I think i've been cured.... nothing to report since March :shkNot so in my case, just flat broke......... :uarocks
Thanks chaps!!

7/10... need specifics on the rods and reels. As for the ski, already been thinking that its going to require a different approach in terms of tackle storage and gear duh
With this rainy/windy weather we're having in the Western Cape, it's probably a good time to challenge my resolve to fight tackle addiction and ability to dodge my wife's eagle eyes and visit a tackle shop or two. I only know the shop near Somerset Mall. We are staying in Kuilsrivier at the moment. Any other shops worth a visit nearby?. Thanks!

Was dreaming with a pair of 80s to close my collection. Then out of nowhere I got a call from a local friend who imported 6 of these from the US last year... he has 3 x 80s as well.... was wondering if I knew anyone who might be interested. Closed the deal like in 10 seconds!

Hi everybody... my name is Martin and it's been a full 30 minutes since my last acquisition :blush:How much was this bad boy :hnthnt: :cgrts:
My name is John F and lately I have been misbehaving terribly! While others have been involved the responsibility is all mine!I purchased a lure the other day :hehe: :hehe: :hehe:
I have recently acquired:
* a brand new bling Tiagra80WA which is now being spooled with 600 m of dacron + topshot;
* another 2nd hand but very good condition Ti80 combo with dacron+topshot;
* a sexy Alutecnos fighting jacket;
* a sweet Daiwa Saltist 4500H with braid which I'll pairwith the Exage surf, for some spinning sessions at Ponta;
* and to top it all, the long awaited and drop-dead gorgeous, SnR lures C-cup and Sweet 16 - 2 of each!!!!
Eish... it feels gooood!
Marcos, that's not misbehaving, that's tearing the ring right out of it.
As Ultimate Anglers in the TA program, we are all proud of you (clap)
I purchased a lure the other day :hehe: :hehe: :hehe:
My name is Christo and I'm an addict... but I think I might have taken things a LITTLE BIT too far!
My garage is getting a bit small for my liking and I cannot fit all my tackle neatly without falling over stuff (apparently there has to be space for the missus' car duh ). I could not think of any other option, so I bought a new plot and will be building a new house WITH a separate tackle store-room off the garage, as well as a fish cleaning station.
At least that way my stuff will be stored neatly again!

You're gonna have to wait a LONG time for pics... transfer is only June next year, then we have 2 years to build, but believe you me, I'm already playing with ideas in my head, scribbling bits and pieces on paper for the architect!
Imagine reversing into the garage, canopy opens into a door which leads to a tackle-store with a slightly angled floor and drain (like a shower, effectively a WET ROOM), with a concrete/stainless cleaning table (hosepipe, sink, bin, tools, hand-gaffs, knives, , vacuum-sealer, the works). All tackle stored on the "higher side", fitted neatly against the wall, curtain-rails for all lures, whilst fish and gear are cleaned on the lower side, and a slide connecting the bakkie-canopy to the cleaning station for the bigger tuna!
I'll put the design up once it's finished!! ...oh and don't forget the bar-fridge and BIG box-freezer!
Oh bugger I seemed to have purchased 4800 mtrs of 80 lb Dacron.....let the big wind begin....

Scuze my ignorance here .7 but what on earth is that?It is a Pakula Witchdoctor and prob the best marlin FAD/ Teaser you can get... the difference between when I use it and when I don't is noticeable.
Eish... I love this forum :-)
Eish... I love this forum :-)
And the forum loves you
:hehe: sorry, just jumped into my head and had to dot it down
what i like about it is that it is out of the way and does interfere with your spread unlike the spreader bars and other teasers we have tried.
just secure it properly to the boat can imagine the long stares on the deck if it had to come undone
oh btw i sure it had something to do with the 3 :billf:

Two matched rigs on the boat. :-)
On a more serious note, a huge thanks to the Shagman for sourcing the goods and making the "damage" more bearable. :+ cred: and :resp: to you mate

There are 2 Tiagra 30's that said something very bad about my mother !!!!
Sustain 5000 maybe, Saragosa 5000 - you could go 6000-8000 size Shimano grinders for off-shore, but for Tigers and up to 10kg size fish off-shore, I'd go 5000 with 30lb Suffix832
Always good when The Dealer has some TA of his own... sorry I couldn't get them to you in time bud but our new :wahoo: snacks are here...

I woke up this morning feeling terrible and I just knew it was TA. I just had to go out and buy myself the Stradic that I have been dreaming about. Luckily for me they were sold out and I got myself a Sustain 5000FG. Loaded with some 20lb Sufix 832 and now I am ready to go chase some Leeries! :yipee:

I concluded an interesting transaction yesterday... traded 2 unused Daiwa Sealine 900H reels spooled with 80 Lb chinese mono and rods, for 1 spooled Tiagra 30 WLRSA on a standup Tiagra 3050 rod ...
I'm all smiles!
That goes down as theft bud w;k
Usually all this TA occurs before the dec holiday, for the Notoriously hard jan, there seems to be a serious dose of TA going around. It must be contagious.
I've been doing so well... bad weather had us out with the kids yesterday and I finally stumbled across Luckys which Bwana is always raving about.... 2 more Tiagra 30 combos and a Terez MH later...

My 2 10LDs came from Big Catch in CT... Ordered online and had terrific service from them. Granted, it was just before the Rand went into free fall. They were listed slightly cheaper at Gani's as well but at the time they were out of stock and I wasn't sure what price the new stock would come in at.

7/10s try and avoid supporting the lure manufacturer on the top right of your pic. I believe its Triton correct?
This clown merely copies all of the existing lure manufactures once they have put all the hard yards and finance into developing them
:hyst: :hyst: :hyst: ...so you're telling me, that from a TA perspective, I have no idea how lucky I am being single?
Ummmmm.....OOOOOPSSSS
Just completed my official last purchase of the year: 2 TLD combos fully kitted with power handles and igfa line! They gonna be my kite kits!you wish...there's a Dbn trip soon

Nice one Greg, are you getting rid of any of your TLD's?Hi Dodger
Yes for sure I will be getting rid of a few of them. I think there's about 12 all loaded with new braid and topshots. I just need to sort what I'm keeping and what's staying. ???
Keep an eye open 👍
What Rods do you pair those Reels with? Nice looking purchase....I went with the shimano beastmaster 70 medium heavy.
Got these just... because....
Thanks to a few Heroes that went out of their way to get these to me (shag, shaun, pete, iNdlovu)... you guys :geet

Very nice Pete, still on my list. Where are you going to mount it?Thanks Boet, I'll wait till I fetch the boat at the beginning of April to see where best to put it so it's out of the way. I have Shag Stix and the center rigger so not quite sure but maybe on the roll over bar on the back :dunno:

I don't see too much of the combatting part of the "combatting tackle addiction" going on here!
I have ordered myself the Assassin offshore spin/jig rod, its apparently designed as a dual purpose rod for both spinning and jigging ?? has anyone got any comments ??
Hopefully getting it tomorrow and weather permitting will test on Saturday, will let you know it goes, if it is k*K I will take it back, simple as that.I have ordered myself the Assassin offshore spin/jig rod, its apparently designed as a dual purpose rod for both spinning and jigging ?? has anyone got any comments ??

Move over Mike.:shk agreed , Henk is about six light years ahead of me at this stage , some nice goodies there Henk , but Bass Pro will do that to a person , they got some awesome stuff and huge range ... anyone that says they can just pop in there and browse without leaving with a trailer full of tackle, needs medical help and fast ... :hyst: :hyst:

Needed 30lb braid for 4 different spools as well as a bit of 50lb... After doing quite a bit of research I decided to give Tasline a try. It arrived in the post today... It feels amazing. Can't wait to test it on an angry fish.
On my recent trip through Miami my BPS account wan't nearly as bad as it normally is when I get to where there is one.

This is apparently excellent stuff... keep us posted as to how it performs.

That's because half the shop was probably blown away by a hurricane, or didn't you notice? :hehe:

Lekker Lofty, now you just need time to fish. :hehe:That's the plan Hermann,to test these new toys at the Breede when I get back to SA..going at the end of April.. :rck" :fshn: :shmno: :penn:
Seems like the economy is taking its toll, or theres no more addicts on this page?
Decided that after all these years a proper pair of sunnies was in order. Got myself a from-me-to-me present in the form of Maui Jim World Cup Marlin sunglasses that are something else.I also got some Maui sunnies a few months ago......worth the $ for sure
I can blank in style now!!!!
Got myself a new rod... Okuma Azores 7" Boat Jigging rod. It's a one piece rod with MH action. Rated at 10-15 Kg line and 50-150 g, strong back bone and light as a feather. Stronger guides comparing to the Shimano Trevala.... I'll pair it with a Daiwa Saltist 4500.
I'm gonna cast plugs to death this summer!
Anyone used this rod before? Was too good a deal to let it pass for only 3 250.00 Mets (about R775) brand new...
Let proper su4mmer roll!!!
Guys, I stuffed up big time!!!
I succumbed to tackle addiction last night and now am feeling very guilty... Do you guys have remedies for the post tackle binge buying blues?
I haven't bought fishing tackle for so long and haven't been fishing in so long that on a recent unplanned light tackle barbel trip to the Vaal the hunger to fish was re-ignited.
I bought the following and will post pics when it arrives:
Loomis Archipelago 11ft
Shimano Sedona c5000 reel
Daiwa Laguna 8ft spinning rod
Shimano Siena 3000 reel
2 x Conoflex Ultra pro 8ft rods
2 x Rovex 3000 baitrunners
Enough Braid and Mono to wrap around earth
Braid scissors
2 x rod bags
I binge watch Youtube fishing videos and the Alcock brothers DVD's which also fueled these purchases... Gear should arrive in the week...
Please help!!

Hello great people from :ult:Good reels Bud , my mate here ONLY uses the 6500C series , he has the red ones ...I find they are brilliant when clean and they do not like saltwater on them and do not like swimming....that being said , my mate has modded his over the years to combat the sea water....also I find them a tad finicky to service and work on....Im busy servicing one now for a good customer of mine...
I have discovered something very dangerous... Ebay auctions... I have succumbed to 2 auction fever buys... Abu Garcia Ambassadeurs, Made in Sweden... Looking to use them for Shad and Aussie Salmon... Ebay works too easily here from down under, if you bide your time and watch auctions you can pick up great steals! This one is a 6500C. This one was made in 1969:
"During the time your reel was manufactured, the 6500 series was revolutionary for surf and salmon fishing. The core specifications for the vintage 6500 C include:Origin: Made in Sweden.Gear Ratio: 4.7:1 (Classic slow, high-torque retrieve).Bearings: "C" designates that the reel features ball bearings, typically upgraded from original bushings."
Anybody fish with these Abu Garcia's still?
