Title: Daiwa Seagate 3500
Post by: Poenskop on August 11, 2010, 12:37:43 PM
I am looking for a reel to go with my Berkley Air. Have anyone used this reel before or am I better of with a Stradic 5000?

Don't think so Louis... the Seagate is just one down from the Saltiga?

The Stradic is a looong way down from the Stella....

Found this....
Qualities of the Daiwa Seagate-E 3500 QD Fixed Spool Reel

This Seagate reel is feature-rich, starting with the aluminium alloy body plus body cover, and persisting with a long-life bail spring and also a cast aluminium spool. With a machine-cut aluminium handle plus EVA handle knob, the 3500 QD is built with a “super metal” aluminium reel body. The circular shape of the EVA knob aids winding. The reel furthermore has two patented components. The first component is a “twist buster” line roller (patent number EP0876760B1).
The second component is the titanium-coated airbail (patent number EP1038437B1).
The 3500 QD has a 5.3:1 ratio and a weight of 14 ounces. Reel capacity is 220 metres of 10 pound line. Equipped with 7 ball bearings, including 2 CRBB type, the reel’s action is amazingly sleek. One quality all anglers will want is the QD (quick drag) system that makes it possible for the reel to change between free spool and engaged with even less than a single turn of the knob – an advantage you are sure to appreciate in testing situations. The locked-down side plate contains a sealed gearing system (DigiGear).
Should you fish with braided line, you are going to find the titanium nitrided BB line roller a great asset.

Hi Poenskop

I have the berkley Air 9ft XH, and i paired it up with the Seagate 4000, nice balanced setup for me, i found the 3500 to be a little small for my liking

They both excellent reels and both of them have a 10kg drag rating, the reel is very well made.

I also spoke with Khan, i originally wanted to get the Saltist spinning reel from him, but he advised me that the Seagate in his opinion was a much better quality reel
