Finally got myself a shweet grinder recently, now my dilemma starts.after the recent angling expo held in Jozi, ive heard of so many new products being launched which in every way,is a good thing  but......its kind of busting up my program .im looking for a decent rod for my seagate 3500qd,will be used for light tackle, spinning and popping.anyone up there been to the expo and manage to get a sneak peek of things to come for the above mentioned applications.
thanks guys

Ferrari... do you plan to do this from a boat or from the shore?

From the Shore, you want a slightly longer rod - in the 10ft range - to enable you to put in a longer shot. The Shimano Exage 10ft is a winner, highly rated up to 5oz - but I wouldn't call it "light tackle". For that you'd need a lighter setup.

From the boat, you want a shorter rod so that you don't become a nuisance to other anglers... taking their hats off and pinning their ears with your trebles!! lol. For spinning off a boat - you want an 8-9ft rod... Berkley Air XH is the one I'd go for...

Come to think of it, the Berkley AIR would be a good all-round rod for both situations...

I reckon personal choice also plays a role, even in this regard.
During my recent trip to Flamingo Lodge, Angola I used a 9ft Blue Marlin Hurricane dropshot/spinning rod with Daiwa Exceller 4000E to throw half oz to 2 oz lures and dropshot while I used the Adrenalin Heavy 11 ft spinning rod with the same reel with success to throw the heaveier lures (from 3 oz to 5 oz). I experienced no difficulties with the 9 footer catching the Shad (2 to 3 kg) but I must confess I ended up fishing with the 11 footer most of the time. Although its a fairly cheap rod it performed extremely well and I can definitely recommend it. Caught several Garrick of up to 7 kg and Kob of up to 9kg with no hassles. The little reel had to be serviced every other day, however and I reckon I could have used a slightly heavier reel.

Awesome choice!! Congrats! As a matter of interest, what did it cost you?

This is what that rod is capable of...
