White mussel bait
« on: July 09, 2021, 10:26:26 PM »
Hi all

Please share your thoughts on presenting white mussel bait like this:
(I should've hooked it a bit lower, but basically you wrap the mussel in cotton and hook it through. I saw it on one of ASFN's videos not too long ago)
 :tkx:

I think you right by saying you should have hooked it lower.

Never have fish it that way with a circle hook. You could get thru a couple of mussels easy in a outing fishing that way.
I LOVE THE SMELL OF FRESH BAIT IN THE MORNING

Indeed, that was a bit too high.

That is exactly what I experienced that day duh  peckers peck it off in seconds, but at least there are no worries about the bait sliding down to the gape of the hook

Look , my suggestion , would be .

Donít worry to much about , a proud hook , when fishing soft baits .

As long as you donít jam up hook point , with cotton , or tough pieces of bait .

With the dingles , itís nice and easy , and you can clip .

But how long cast must , you make for a. Galjoen or reef fish ?

Fishing without a dingle , in galjoen fishing , will out weight the use of a dingle , by far .

If they galjoen are biting skelm , the pic you posted , will drive you NUTS , they will clean you of time and time agian .

You can , try a longer , slimmer bait presentation .
Or smaller , although I am not a fan of smaller baits .

Try to limit your use , of cotton .

Cotton or latex , some believe , the latex scares the galjoen .
Never had made a big diffrance to me  might be otherwise in other cases .

I often , have seen and like using big pieces of bait , and redbait and white mussel .
I try to secure the bait , with as small amount of cotton or latex , this way , your bait appears , like a loose piece just floating around .

And lastly , the vrotter the red bait , the better  for galjoen .

Crackers prefer a fresh redbait .

Fresh white mussel , redbait  available @agulhasbankstackle in Struisbaai .
