First you need to go to Icasa and apply and pay for a Ships station license (much like a TV license) then you can go to SAMSA and apply for your radio license? Your Station license is about R500 and your VHF livense is about R400?

If you want drop me a PM and I will happily take you to the offices to help sort it all out?

Hi Mohamed-a
Please drop me an email so I can forward your the lastest form- Ship station Application .The one attached is not for the Marine Vhf radio.
The first requirement is to shop for a radio and request the dealer to fill out the respective section of the forms. The completed application with a certified copy of your id and proof of deposit of the application fee is to be handed in at Icasa. The fees are R480.00 is to be paid into the Icasa bank account. Telephone number 031 334 9500.
The exams are conducted at Samsa, please confirm the course notes as I am aware of some changes theat have been done. Telephone 031 307 1501.
I trust this will be of assistance to yourself. Due to the size of the forms, please send me an email so I can send you a copy.NB please ensure all other radio equipment is licensed as the fines are heavy.

Sorry for the high jack Mohamed. Should one launch through the Durban Ski Boat Club, is a radio and licenses etc. required? Or can one do away with a VHF radio?
