Moz sport & recreational fishing permits
« on: July 28, 2010, 06:38:45 PM »
According to the Moz Sport & Recreational Fishing Act (Decree 51/99 of 31 August 1999), foreigners visiting Mozambique, should pay the following prices for fishing permits.

These can be paid in ZAR (but check the rate!), at Provincial Fisheries Services or more commonly at INAMAR (= Maritimo/Port Captain).

Spearfishing
Monthly license - 500.00 Mt
Quarterly license - 1,500.00 Mt
Annual license - 1,000.00 Mt

Surface fishing
Monthly license - 400.00 Mt
  Quarterly license - 1,200.00 Mt
  Annual license - 800.00 Mt

Trophy (= billfish) permits should also be bought for 150.00 Mt.

Although it is rarely enforced, please make an effort to pay yours. It's the right thing to do!

Cheers!

SEARAIDER and JOHN F, Not sure what it is now but this is an extract from the Guinjata Bonanza Programme from last year.

I think it is important that the anglers understand how it works because should the agent from Maritimo apply it incorrectly one can still be held liable. By the looks of the below the launch fee includes the skipper fishing license. Meticas are about 2.7 to the rand.

-       Launch  Fees: 1250.00 Metica per boat
-       Fishing  Licenses: 420.00 Metica per angler, skipper for free

Hey Tunaman,

I don't know what happened but someone is doing something wrong at Guinjata! Probably the local authorities!

There are no free licenses! Skippers should pay theirs too! It's and individual license!

My suggestion: get your license from the Fisheries Department in Inhambane! The 420.00 Mts per angler doesn't make any sense! The rate now is about R1 = 4.5 Mt.

One more reason, why South Africans SHOULD exchange their ZAR once they get into Moz... no funny rip offs!

JohnF I just checked the exchange and you are right it is 4.6 now. I have some licenses from last year October issued at Do Ouro. Will check what they cost tonight and revert tommorrow.

JOHN F sorry I nearly forgot to get back to this subject. What I got is the following. These are of the receipts.

Ponta Malongane 10 May 2009            400.00MT per angler and no launch fee
Ponta Do Ouro 1 October 2009            400.00MT per angler and an additional 600.00MT launch fee

In all cases skipper had to purchase a license as well.

It seems that the authority at the particular area might apply his own methods.

To fish such an exotic destination it's worth it
If people concentrated on the really important things in life, there'd be a shortage of fishing poles

I am headed for Guinjata/Cocout Bay area in Dec. Do any of you know where I can get fishing licenses and launch permits now as opposed to messing around when I get there. Alternatively, where is the most convenient place to procure all the permits i need.

Tks

Mark it is quite impossible without being in Moz yourself. I will be up at Barra in Dec. Maybe we should be in contact. If fishing is hot up my way you are welcome to join for a day or two.

MikeF we were there recently and the costs are the same as what they have been for quite some time now. 400 Metz for 30 day Fish license and 600 Metz for a navigation license. Keep your old ones to show the official that you know what it should cost. If you do not have I can scan some and mail you for an example.

Are the fishing permits people specific? i.e. I will be changing crew between friends and children's friends almost on a daily basis. If I bought 5 for the boat would that suffice?

They are person specific and actually has your passport number on. I have the same situation as you but they would probably have to prove that the young ones was fishing and not actually just riding along. At the current rate of exchange it is a mere R 75.00 per license however.

At Bilene Maritimo office they didnt put my passport number or any other identifiable info on. Was purely an amount for a fishing license and launch fees which they sucked out of thin air. I wish I could find that blimmin slip...

MikeF it is cool if I do not do their work properly...lol. I attach some licenses as per recent trip to Inhaca. They should have the Passport numbers completed.

If you come more than 3 times a year it's worth getting an annual license. And in this case YOU WANT your name and passport numbers as you may visit other places and use the same license...
