Donaldson Dam
« on: February 02, 2012, 10:06:14 PM »
I may have posted this before, under another topic. The dam is situated between Randfontein and Westonarea.

No keep nets are allowed, as the dam is strictly Catch and Release. Cars will be searched on exit if they have an idea that you have kept a fish.
 (clap)
The Carp and LM Bass are consequently of an above average size.

Inflatables, kick boats, bait boats are allowed. Just NO keep nets. (clap)
If we caught fish on every trip, it would be called " Catching". We don't, and that's why it's called "Fishing".

Yes camping and caravaning is permitted. I have no idea of the conditions of the abluutions, or the rates.

When I last visited the place ( about 4 years ago ) there were teenagers camping as well as a few caravans ( school holidays ).

As far as the fishing is concerned, I would put this venue on a to do list.

As far as size od Carp, I have seen pics of 8kg +.  Rumour has it that 10kg + Carp are common. :dunno:
Next time I drive past I will pull in and make sure everything is Kosher.

Don't want to promote a place that is history   :unhap

Thanks WK. haven't been past there in ages to check out conditions.

As far as species are concerned, I know of , Carp, ( Mirror, common, and maybe grass carp ), Bass, Barbel. There should be sm yellows, and muddies as well.
