If you going for YFT then a single 6/0 straight onto your leader (no wire) pin the mozzie behind the head and drift over the marks. I also down rig one with a 1 oz sinker. If you get an on free spool it so it swims away from the sharks, don't force it as it will be taxed.

thanks CLS,  gonna do that,  i'll be hanging around dbn, not too deep cos we gotta get back to work by 12.30. should I put any dusters or skirts before the hook or just straight ?
wont be going specifically for them but I would to fish for them while the other are bottom fishing.
thanks man!

i agree with Chris... Except, i use a circle hook.

While you are bottom fishing its great to have a trapstick or 2 out for tuna. The constant bringing up of traces and fish and releasing of fish cause commotion and i beleive attract the yellowfin to the boat and when they see that live mozzie, they cant leave it alone!

Looks like the cold weather is on the way, the cold offshore around the river mouth is no fun,  means bringing out the warm gear and a flask of hot soup will be in order from now on.  Have to love this :fshn:

Ah shame, you poor guys up there in durbs, what does it get down to, 18 deg????
The best is the beach launch in winter when you have to climb on wet and make the 100m run in the wind whilst freezing.

hi fished this morning, windguru was all wrong, nothing new :cnfzd
sea was lumpy and between 1.6-1.8m , light offshore blowing.

we trawled around no1 but it was quiet, tried for some tuna but also quiet,  we did manage a nice amber jack of around 7kgs..
fished bottoms for the rest of the day, only few fish, couple of reds, a nice catface and rubber lips. generally a very quiet day.. fishing showing on the finder but not eating.
water is getting cooler and is like an off green colour atm, lots of mozzies at the bait spots..
anyway was a good day out, back at work by 12.

thanks for the help guys!

So I'm planning to come down in July for a long weekend and take you snoek fishing, so I can test drive your traces lol. Also the sard's may be close by in July  :dunno:

Finally a guy who understands us Durban boys hardships. Thats why we get our Durban operators certificates and then launch through the harbour mouth. We can't be wet and cold, we have to look pretty for all those beautiful blondes when we beach, then running up to our trailers hair blowing in the wind, bodys shinning from suntan lotion, muscles rippling with our surfboards tucked under our arms.
