How did you go Chris? We had a late launch at around 7:30, filled up with mackerel and went very deep straight off Umhlanga, found beaut water at 24deg and spent about three hours drifting livebaits, ended up with one dollie of about 7kgs :dor:.....luckily did a bit better than most, a mate of mine launched at 4, used six cans, visited 5 FADS and got zero fish

We launched yesterday, after all complaints about new club, space etc, we got on the water quite quick, arrived at the club at 03h35am and on the water by 04h00am. when we beached probably waited 20 mins we were trailered and parked back at the club to go enjoy a beer or three. Maybe it was just one of those days where everything went smooth except the catching fish part as we had a game plan which we stuck too but blanked, BUT the beers were cold. The club had a nice mini social comp yesterday, 102 fisherman and ladies too, 40 boats, 42 fish weighed, mostly dollies, some tuna, nice Wahoo. Then a crap end to the day, the left wheel bearings collapsed, lucky we heard the squeek squeek squeek slowed and noticed the wobbly wheel before it took flight, FFF had spare set in the van so took a while to sort and get back on road, lucky no major disaster.

I agree, weather has been very unseasonal - no strong NE like usual this time of year. Down here we have yet to see the clean blue/purple water and a proper turnout from the dorado. We fished yesterday and conditions were poor, no dorado or any other gamefish. Managed some decent bottomfish and a chaotic half hour period catching skipjack tuna on the light flicksticks and spoons which made up for the generally poor day overall. My lightie enjoyed the action so that's what counts!

Was on the 200m off Durban drifting live mackerel on a 8/0 circle.............as Bwana said - an 8'6" trapstick and a decent YFT is always going to be uphill

I here you John but not much fun catching dollies on 80lb w;k a mate was actually on the rod and we had the first leader knot on the reel twice, saw the fish both times, once 4m away - at least 40....also almost got spooled by another fish an hour into this fish but we couldn't chase it so put brakes hoping it would stop duh

So after about 3 months off the water and the Easter weekend here, We took the gap to fish Sunday, Water was flat, we tried for Couta early morning with no luck so changed to bottom fishing, fishing was hard as very few bites, FFF and his Jnr landed some nice fish and i struggled along. FFF jnr i have to say is coming on leaps and bounds he boxed a nice 2kilo false Englishman from 50m and a few decent soldiers, no complaining or asking for help as those fish give you a tussle that you don't expect and when you have about 20 downs for his age he did brilliant. When it counted and i finally got a bite the taxman took more than his 15% smoked me for 80% of a Beeg Yellow Belly Rockod.  swr :shrk: <:

Photo 1 FFF with a nice rubberlip 5.5 and FFF jnr False english 2kilo and soldier 1.8
Photo 2 whats left of my Yellowbelly  the head alone weighed 3.9kilo

Quite a lot of action here off Shelly Beach over the Easter weekend, always fishes well this time of year and some unbelievable fish came out.

The crew on Nitro had a weekend to remember with a 100.7kg Yellowfin caught out deep pulling for Marlin, the fish ate a purple/black Pulsator Marlin Magnet and sets the new Shelly Beach record for Yellowfin Tuna. The next day they went out again, worked the same area and bagged another one of 77kg! Talk about a lucky charm!

Some big couta came out as well on the Sunday with a few boats getting fish above 25kg. Biggest one weighed came out on King Tutt, pulling the scales to 34.5kg. Another boat also had 3 fish over 30kg! South Coast on fire  :-)
