E.T... Advice please ?
« on: November 09, 2011, 01:21:37 PM »
Hey Koos,

I was going to send you a pm, but I thought that everyone may benefit.

Herman's post got me thinking, a few of us have been looking for a spinning rod, and I have a crazy idea.

Now this is where your expertise comes in !

Would it be possible to use a 10wt 9ft rod to cast say 2 ounce ???

The fly rod is a 4 piece, ideal for travelling, just need to convert the base section to a spinning set-up !

Will this work ???

I really dont think a 10# have a strong enough tip to cast a 2oz. A 10# flyline weighs about 280 grains. 280 grains  =  0.64 ounces

Homie, the Daiwa Wilderness 9ft 5 piece medium spinning rod looks like a nice rod for travelling.

I've heard some nice things about the Sonic spinning rods.

It might be useful to ask them to import the heavier rods in the series.

Homie

Not 2 ounce, sorry boet. If you want to use it for Ultra Lite Spinning then I would say yes. If you are looking for a travel rod, then I would say something like a Composite Development, Purglas, Blue Marlin blank would do the thing.
I know that Purglass do make multi piece rods :hnthnt:
