Lures straight to Bimini
« on: October 17, 2011, 07:41:02 PM »
To the experienced guys, some avice please?
IGFA Rules for Slatwater Tackle equal or less than 20lb:
Leader Length/Bimini Length not longer than 4.57m
Total Length from knot in Bimini to end of Lure not more than 6.1m
If I have a 1.5m Bimini and my trolling lures woth leader line have a length of 2m, what are the dangers of tying the snap swivel to the Bimini with a Cats Paw and then attaching the leader straight to that, without a wind-on in between?

Don't tie your bimini to the snap with a cats pawl, there will be movement and the line can rub, also with this connection you only get the strength of 1 strand of the double line.
Rather tie you double line to the snap swivel using a fig. 8 knot and pull it tight onto the snap.
Personally I would use a shorter 600mm bimini with a 4m line to my lure, for that line class I would use 100-150lb flouro for my lures.
Remember that with your leader length you need to allow for stretch especially with big fish as the line may not return to its original length and therefore disqualify you. So with my sizes above you will be safe with a 25% allowance.

When I fish with my 20lb rigs I do not use any clips at all, I tie a 600mm bimini in my main line and then join 80-150lb flouro to the double line with a double fig.8 knot.
My lures are without leaders and I tie the flouro directly to the lure. I start out with a 5m leangth and when it gets to around 3m I put a new one.

Interesting reply . I prefer to also put a very short biting trace on lure. In case something with teeth. Take my lure. my 2 c
