We all know that ice is the key to keeping your bait and fish fresh. Nothing worst that taking home a nice fish that has been baking under the sun the whole day, heh?!
Well, ice is not the only ingredient. Freshwater also ruins your fish, so the ice that helps your fish, as soon as it melts it starts ruining it (well, technically it's the bacteria, but never mind...). So, here's what I do:
Take all those juice and milk tetrapak constainers and after a quick wash, fill them to the top. Take out about 2 cm of water and frezee it. I have lot's and lot's of this stuff in my dedicated chest freezer. It also helps with social events, etc...
When you go out, take the ice out of the container (just rip it off), put it in your safari/coleman/ etc, and sprinkle a hand of coarse salt on top of the ice. This will do magic to your fish and bait... the ice will drop the temp so much it actually freezes bottles of mineral water!!!! As the ice melts, it doens't flood the cooler box with freshwater but with saltwater, thus keeping the quality of the goods inside...
Try it out next time, I'm sure you'll notice the difference!
Cheers
