Large Mouth Yellowfish! We get them in the vaal and orange river systems here in SA.
The SA record is 21Kg. Those cant be far off. Best bait would be crabs and live bait.

The fish "Unidentified fish species Nš2" looks very much like the Zambezi strain of yellowfishes in Southern Africa, let me do a bit of research on that....

Definately seen that fish's profile in one of my books.

My best guess for the unidentified fishes would be:

1. Purpleface Largemouth
2. Papermouth
3. African Pike

I am sure that is some kind of 'yellow fish'. Let me guess, very strong fighters?

Did some research on the net
Zambezi Yellow Fish - Could be Labeobarbus codringtonii

Pic from Fly Talk and caught in Angola, Scientists confirm it is Labeobarbus but not sure on which species

Mike, that picture is the same fish species, look it has the same fat reservoir I've talked about earlier.

The guys sayd that this two caught on spoons on the pic were not the biggest ones they caught, were around average size.

I am sure it is the same species, that fish in the pic according to what I found was caught by a marin bioligist from the Cape in the Kwanza river system, he confirmed it is Labeobarbus but not sure on which species

Yep,

"Message from Dr Ernst Schwartz from SAIAB

It is indeed a specimen that was caught by my colleague Olaf Weyl (in the picture and copied on this email) below Capanda Dam. We are doing research on the system to identify species for future fisheries development with Angolan collaborators. The fish is as yet unidentified but certainly belongs to the genus Labeobarbus (yellowfishes)."

And this place is before the Capanda Dam, Kwanza river pass throught Malanje.

At least you now know it is a Yellow fish species and this should help you to choose methods to catch them next time you go, there is a method that the guys use in the Vaal called Czech nymphing on fly rods, personally I don;t see this as proper fly fishing and would be better used on spinning tackle, lipped lures, spoons and spinners should also work.

Most of our Largies here are not targeted using czech nymphing, there feeding behaviour and target food sources are pretty different to small mouths? So it is more of a conventional river style of flyfishing with larger patterns like the MSP, and it involves some stalking and stripping, There are some Real Gurus on here Fedu, Like schlosd Herman and Rory that can give you some great advice and first hand experience on targetting these fish on the fly.

I don't think Fedu wants to target them on Fly, he is a metal head not a fluffer
