Moz advice requested
« on: September 28, 2011, 11:03:13 AM »
We are family group of fifteen intending to take our first tentative steps into Moz. We would like to travel in December to Southern Moz from Durban and would like some advice and contact details for self catering accommodation. We will be travelling in a convoy of three 4x4 DC's and a Volvo SUV. We intend to do some shore angling. Any advice would be appreciated, thanks.

Just make sure you don't enter Moz from Kosi Bay side... in December, the Volvo won't make it through. The roads get seriously churned up and 4x4 becomes necessary. The stretch between d'ouro and Malongane is particularly bad during December.

Thanks for all the responses and the advice and encouragement.
We will not be towing a boat, therefore prefer a location more conducive to shore angling.

For shore angling crossing the Kosi border and staying at places like Technobanine(spelling) and  Hells gate/Santa Maria are you're closest bet with great fishing to add, but that road is purely 4x4 so the Volvo will have a problem. The shore angling off Ponta do Ouro and Ponta Molangane is very hit and miss hence the reason why I mentioned the 1st two.

Your next option for shore angling along the coast would be Chidenguele which Dugong Boy mentioned. Here you will travel through Maputo and the along the EN1 North for 270kms. Here 4x4's are not necessary.

Your next best bet for great shore angling would be Pomene but I think once you get there 4x4 is necessary.

Google all these names and you will find lots of different options of accomodation from camping, chalets and houses.

Let us know if you have any further questions.

BTW be sure to sample the local brew 2M  :frid

Paulo - agreed!  2M

as well as Manhica, AND Laurentina!!!!!

Instant "crowd pleaser" is Laurentina  (forget what the "vintage" is..... DARK BEER - like Milk Stout or Guinness........ just BETTER!!!!!). Best alcoholic beverage I have consumed in ages....

And you can still walk in a straight-ish line after 4 of them...... well reasonably straight.... only problem is with your lips...speaking becomes a tad strange.... maybe someone has some stats on Alcohol content? Bugger that! Very nice stuff!

Yup, that Laurentina blend MUST be acknowleged!!!!!

Cheers, RB

Just a word of caution - if you go to Chidenguile, find out about access to the beach with 4x4's?? I have overnighted there quite a few times and recently there were some issues with beach driving and hefty fines were dished out (R2000+??). Very good spot.....especially if you can drive up north on the beach - big kingies to be had on the spring highs!!

Spot on with the beer Royboy - I battle to tolerate 2M (was tortured with 2 days of unfishable weather and 5 cases of 2M once!!!) Laurintina all the way!!!

The pics are of some of the accomodation at Chidenguile and a view from the veranda.

All beach driving in MOZ is banned. There are no exceptions unless you are towing a watercraft and then it is only for launching or retrieving. 20 000 mets fine!

There are exceptions and as far as I know permits are available at a few places(not bribes but proper permits).
The one exception (there are a few) is getting to Club15, near Villiancoulus, there is a lengthy beach drive to get there. (they may have introduced a permit system, not sure.)
