John F have you any idea how this will affect jetskis ? The spare engine might be a bit of a problem. Maybe we could put one on the life ring and tow it behind ?
Education is important but fishing is importanter !

Hi Guys, Does anyone have a list of the new requirements which are applicable to Jet skis. Will be at either Malongane or Do Ouro in March next year.

Thanks

Hi,

Would my category "E " skippers be fine to go to Santa Maria or will they require a category " C " ?.

My boat has a category "C" COF, but I just want to play around in the bay ?.
Why Not....

The SA system (Cat A, B, etc), does not apply in Moz.

You need to bring your skippers (not really relevant which category), and you need to bring the safety equipment as listed in post 1.

Hi John how necessary is a spare engine on a small mono with a 60 on the back? Will there be hassles with the authorities if I dont have one. Thanks

There are a few boats at the local cluvs with single engines. They get inspected and pass. Don't think you'll will have major problems.

John F, Is 100% correct, in more than 25yrs + going about in Moz, I have often seen single outboards on local & foreign registered boats in Moz, and never heard of them NOT passing the inspections, however I am not a fan of single outboard boats for sea fishing - So I guess you will not have any problems. Just for example lots of them 'Banana Boats" running about Inhaca with them 40hp Enduro Yamaha outboards, and they do bay crossings to Maputo, acting as "transporters" or taking out okes for spearfishing / snorkelling / fishing - likewise, you will find the same practice at Inhambane and further up North. *Also seen loads of single outboard "rubber ducks" at spots like Tofo & Barra... so don't stress

BTW:......Isn't a Jet Ski, a single outboard type driven vessel? ...LOL..

The only 2 x items they might get "snotty" about, will be - a) Croque (boat hook) = gaff won't suffice ! b) Paddles or oars, which you can buy at any boating shop, those "el cheapo" Intex oars is good to go !

Hi,

I know that I might go a little off the topic hear, but hopefully you guys will be able to assist.

I am planning a trip to Santa Maria 17 June 2019 for a week and are planning on crossing the MTB on my boat.

1) Is it a good time of year to fish that area (targeting 3kg to 9kg game fish).
2) Would they allow me to use a cast net to catch live baits from the beach ?.
3) Can you recommend type of lures to use or trace that normally gets the fish biting, want to make my 12 year old boy's arms tired with all the bites. :gt: :cout: :shd:

Any recommendations will be highly appreciated.

Thank you

Thanks for sharing your experience. It’s reassuring to hear that single outboard boats are commonly used in Mozambique and generally pass inspections without issues. Your point about preferring twin outboards for offshore sea fishing also makes a lot of sense from a safety and reliability perspective. The examples from Inhaca, Tofo, Barra, and further north really help show that single outboards are a normal and practical setup in many local conditions. For activities like spearfishing and snorkeling, having reliable gear—such as the best mask for snorkeling—is just as important as having confidence in the boat setup.
