Excellant MARCOS. All the best with the restoration. Also remember besides the false transom that is a must, you need to close up the arch on the nose. This eliminates a lot of spray that comes over in choppy seas. Quite easy to do and best covered while restoring.

Cannot wait to see the finished product!

Marcos, Congrats. Looking forward to seeing the progress as sHE looks solid (they are solid).
I had a similar age 17'6 yeld. Loved her, but the water over the transom and low gunnels at the back can be irritation. a false transome/ splashwell would be nice if layout allows.

Check the floatation as mine had bottles that had deteriorated badly. Also check the drain plugs throught the deck in the 2 fish hatches. Mine leaked intot he hull quite badly. Its not something you want to discover after the rebuild is complete and you have her one the water for the 1st time.

For some time now I've been thinking about getting a new boat. Something large enough to easily accommodate 4-5 anglers and still be small enough to be easily towed and pushed by mid range (80-90 hp HP) motors. A 18-19 ft seemed like the right choice.

Looking at the market, and being a die hard mono fan, my first choice would be the Acecraft 18ft 6. Couldn't find something that was 100% satisfactory so I turned into the cat world!

Only a handful of brands were on the table. Suddenly, I found an old Yeld cat 19ft abandoned here in Maputo. According to Shag he is a 1985-98 model.

Today I went to pic him up! Note the HIM! That's because HE is going to be MAXIMVS, the gladiator! Can't go chasing marlin on a SHE!!!

He'll need some TLC... been neglected in the sun for some time... the deck is solid... got a galvanized trailer and 2 old Mercs... Power will be supplied by 2 x 85 HP Yamaha and hopefully HE will be ready to chase bills this summer!

Two UA members (Manuel Junior and peterblace - huge cred to both of you!) and my friend Miguel spent the whole morning helping me set the trailer and tow him away from the graveyard...

Watch this space as I'll be updating the restoration process...

Super AWESOME, well done bud. Now I will have to come visit you in Maputo to test it out.

I would suggest you build a bum box for the skippers position, makes a huge difference to comfort for the skipper.

Yeap!

Actually it was the main reason I went for the Yeld... fished on one for a long time and was pretty impressed!

If I was to choose a hull, this would be one of them - look forward to seeing what you do with it.

Please explain the misspelling of "Maximvs"?

No misspelling, actually right spelling!

From Wikipedia:

Latin spelling and pronunciation today
Modern usage, even when printing classical Latin texts, varies in   respect of I and V. Many publishers (such as Oxford University   Press) continue the old convention of using [...], and V (upper case) and u (lower case) for both /u/ and /w/.
