this what the complet trace should look like. then take a side cutter and trim of that piece of mono you stuck into the knot. trim it so that about a centimeter or 2 sticks out on each end of your hook knot.

ok so i dont have a live shad in pmb to demo how its done.. this old crimckled bonnie will have to do,

the hook with the snell knot to be inserted into top lip only and the other hook either on the side, top or belly of the bait fish.

ok so now im sure you can see the reason of that little piece of mono. it keeps the main hook upright and proud and allows the possable hook up of the game fish when he picks up the bait.

the 1mm/2mm piece of mono is very stiff and does not allow the hook to bend either way and lie flat on the fish.

this could also be used for shark fish were one does not have to use tooth picks etc.....

u can even use a small steel nail instead of a piece of mono.

happy hunting... :wahoo: :cout: :dor: :gt: :grk: :yft: :shd: :shrk: :brnz: :brbel: ......these are al the species that will take your live bait..

tight lines

last pic to show how the hook sits. also you can trip one fin off the tail of your live bait. makes it swim more erratically thus sending out panick signals attracting your game quicker.

Brilliant Zeyn!!  (clap) What a great post! ++cred

Just a note on The Snell knot:
The line coming through the eye with the snell knot should always come through the front of the eye - this makes the snell work the hook action better, particularly on circle hooks. Like so...

Cred to you Zeyn. That bit of thick mono is a great idea. Part of me not using to much live bait is that bottom hook always falling flat. But not anymore. (clap)
