just a thought . more parralel would mean greater contact of surface area with spring and line. the more acute the angle the lesss.contact. hence the modified.version being more parrallel.would have a great resisitance because of the larger.contact area than the original design. sorry guys but my mind is in over drive apologies!

the smaller the contact area the greater the force on a certain spot on the line.  In other words, that force on a smaller spot twists the line making the slide unable to move down the line.  Still depends on the angle of the force though.

Know that you actively use them, but for the uninformed - this is the exact same reason why they are called non-return slides.  as soon as they bend too much i.e.  bait pulled backwards, they twist the line and are unable to move (backwards).

all arguments and points are valid. i do belive that wave action current and largely the size of your bait also determines how quick the bait gets out. i found that with bigger baits a six spring slder works well but they also suseptable to quicker burn offs because of the larger fricyional force by the contact.area. its all debatable. hence my active involvement in self manufacturing my slides at home. i wasnt very specific but made a variety. lets see if i can post a few
