NIGEL DAM, Nigel
« on: August 02, 2011, 08:50:30 PM »
Just outside the Industrial area of Nigel ( Vorsterkroon to be exact ) is the Nigel dam. I caught my largest Carp on bait here ( targeting Barbel with ertkies  :cnfzd ) . Weight was 7.650 kg, weighed on a Butcher's scale ( If you can trust a Butcher's scale  :shk :crzy :hehe:  )

I see that the dam has been enclosed with a concrete palisade fence ( probably due to criminal elements in the area ), but the entrance is still open.

The dam has Carp, Barbel and Bass. I last fished there about 5 years ago, off an Ark for bass witha flyrod. Got nothing w;k

Security could still be an issue, so don't go alone.
If we caught fish on every trip, it would be called " Catching". We don't, and that's why it's called "Fishing".

I run a factory in the industrial area by the dam, security is the last of your problems, the water stinks, they have been pumping huge volumes of sewage into it lately.. Think id rather take a bullet than touch that water.

Thanks very much for the heads up on the pollution issues.
Seing that the stream flows into the Blesbokspruit, which flows into the Suikerbos, which flows into the Vaal, I may be able to get the attention of SAVE, as well as the Rand Water watchdogs on to this.

Members, PLEASE report or post anything that you KNOW about pollution of our streams and rivers. There ARE people out there. like SAVE ( Save the Vaal Evironment ) who do act.
SAVE put the people responsible for the sewerage spills into the Vaal river from Vereeniging Municipality behind bars for 6 months each 2 years ago. :happ: :happ: :happ:

Early morning, drive past it every day, smells very very off. We get the smell in our offices and foctory. Tests were done a while ago, and guys were very concerned, not to sure if corrective action has been taken. I caught disintry( spelling?) there and so has a mate, mind you i know guys who caught it in the vaal river aswell. All in all you going to battle to find pristine clean water now days, very sad.

The blesbok spruit is also heavily polluted, from Aurora mine and also certain sewage works. Mates of ours took kayaks down it, they were horrified.

There is a dam between springs and nigel its called Vogels, relatively clean and the guys get some good fish there. Also on the Balfour road, there is exclusive bass, also a great little place, private dam, and good bass.

Yesterday I called hendrik of exclusive bass and he told me he is no more in charge of the place anymore, it has new owners. They dont allow fishing anymore there. I then went to nigel dam but it was too windy to take a float tube out. I was alone so safety was a concern. I  fished the area around the boat slipway, got nothing. I was only there for an hour. I got no smell at all. Are there any other places to fish bass in the area. Im usually alone and i have a float tube in the car always. Usually have about an hour 2 during the week but only once a month.
