Casting exercise
« on: July 21, 2011, 01:28:52 PM »
I am putting this exercise under this topic, maybe I should have put it under Willie's jokes. I tried my first cast with the  :mp:  and managed about 30 mt. No overwind but then I loosened the spool button and OH Boy !what a mess  :hehe: . After about 20 throws I managed to get to about 80Mt without and overwind.  :tkx: Fritz for the tip on using water my finger is feeling quite rough, dont want to know what it would have felt like if I did not use your advice.

From 30 to 80 in your first session is gifted bru!! Well done!
If I can give you one piece of advice it's to keep the cast smooth, never jerk it. Jerking the tip will always result in a bunch.

Stick with the MP a coffee grinder is easier to cast but the ability to throw a MP opens up so many more options

Does a MP cast further everything else being equal? Bearing in mind that te casting drag will be set on the MP?

Will it be easier to start off with a lighter weight i.e a 2 ounce instead of a 4 ounce. I find with my  :cg:  that I cast easier with a lighter weight. I practiced on a 4 ounce yesterday. BTW my boss aked me if i am turning our office into a angling shop 2 rods and 3 reels with a libary of books here. :hehe:

@PH it depends on a couple of things. Lighter weights the  :cg: will cast further because there is no loss of momentum having to start the drum spinning. At higher weights 8oz+ I think  :mp:  will cast further BUT I know with a CG I push my casts way harder due to the fact that I am not scared of an overwind.

FYI when I mentioned it opening up more options I was reffering more to the size of fish you can target. CGs do not belong on deepwater points in the skei sliding big baits. I challenge anyone to hook a 100kg grey/bronzie/black etc and stop it in the deep without breaking themselves or the reel

This is the reason why I got this outfit you never know what you might hook and then it becomes a struggle unless you are very experienced. I had twice last year that I hooked decent fish and could not land them one was because my equipment was to light for my experience and the other one becuase the hook was to small and bent open.

I am the last one to advise...but is your right hand above the reel?  Are you right-handed?

Yes PH I use my left hand thumb to control the spin of the reel and the right hand is above the reel. I cast over my right hand shoulder.

Hahaha welcome to the casters club!! When you're practising casting put on a wrist sweatband to protect it.

No wonder I can't cast with MP. Maybe I should keep quiet about my technique.   :creep:
