Haha Garrick you are the complete opposite of me I hardly ever fish from the beach! I think its if you get used to one area you learn to enjoy that more

I hate the bricks with a passion bud.you are spot on there.St Lucia is my sanctuary and I just love it there.Whether i catch or not but just being there is more than enough.I once went to Chakas Rocks and was walking distance to High Rocks.I would take a walk there every day with the lities so that they can fish and catch karranteens, blacktails, stone bream but I would never fish.Yet the okes were getting great pulls and landing garricks, shad, skates and a couple of sharks.I guess it is never too late to learn to fish off the bricks hey.

garrick.
At seola, south of tugelamouth, the garrick feed so close to the bricks, you can see them.
Nailing the carenteen. And yet, they kerp on pulling the garricks year after year..

Pottie it is so sad to see how the garricks get abused by guys targeting them.It is such a sore topic.I felt sick in St Lucia last year July when I saw how some of the locals/visitors hammer them.If only they realise what the stock is sitting on.I got 4 which I released much to the shock and horror of some of the guys next to me.you I was diving off Langkawi and saw 2 come swim close by me and i just looked in awe and admired the sheer speed and beauty of these magnificent creatures. They might not be great sports fish to some but they are very close to my heart and it kills me everytime I see a garrick being kept....unless it is gill hooked.Like I said this is a sore topic and could lead to lots of arguments. My motto is and will always be RELEASE EVERY SINGLE GARRICK I CATCH.

garrick

i hear what you are saying. the best ever fight from i garrick i had, was jigged and boy did he fight.
but just remember, what we catch on the surf side, is only a small drop in the bucket.
as surf anglers we get the scraps. the real party, is out there.
so taking your garrick home, aint no sin.

like jean swart wrote;
they most garrick caught in 1 day was 43.

the most i got was 3, two myself and the ligthie got his first.

also, in my entire life of r&s fishing, many a years i did blank for the whole year.

so like i say, it aint no sin taking your garrick.

Like I said Pottie,it all comes down to the indivdual.I must disagree with you because shore anglers do take out a lot of garricks.I have seen reports and stats.Garrick catching is much easier now than 30 years ago.

sure nothing wrong with keeping a garrick or 2.I agree with you Must-Bye.how much frozen garricks can one eat.According to ORI these fish are running @ under 10% of their sustainable population. Now this figure was some 18 months ago and in my opinion would have dropped in the past 18 months.Whether it is the offshore guys or shore guys, bottom line is the population of these fine creatures is dwindling very fast and before you know it there is going to be a ban on them just like we have on the Seventy Four and had on the shad some years ago.If that happens,I would be the happiest person to walk on planet earth.
Again,this is just my sentiments.

Ladder Rock will also work and is also a very nice deep water point but please just be carefull. MANY people have been knocked down by big waves there and have broken arms, legs, etc. It can be a very dangerous place. But then again, so is Splash Rock especially on a pushing tide just before and after high tide.

In More recent times Ladder rock has become a dangerous spot for your vehicles ...Break in's happen there alot in braod daylight ... so be careful ...  w;k

Stiebel is a well known break in spot. Sand spit is always dodgey. An old lady was raped and murdered just past orange rocks last year and now ladder rock is dangerous. Is there anywhere left

I've always found Splash Rock to be a very safe spot to fish. You can always see your car not too far away and there's never been any problems there during day time that I know of. If you want to fish there at night, just make sure you go there in numbers as with any other spot in SA I suppose. The only problems at Splash are normally the crowds and the fact that the water can get fairly dangerous on a pushing tide if you're not watching what you're doing.

I will be going down on the 2 July and come back on the 9th.i will be staying at Carribean Estate and most likely be fishing in front of the Estate.almost always you going to get shad, grunter, garrick and stumpies in and around river mouths.i am not a big fan for bricks and crowds.Although I might make a trip to Splash to check things out.
yeah it would be great to meet there. What we can do is exchange cell numbers and report on any sards activity.
