Giloolly's Farm - Bedfordview
« on: April 21, 2011, 02:02:36 PM »
Gillooly's Farm is a 44 hectare property that offers restaurant and braai facilities and a jungle gym/playing area for the kids. They are very strict on licenses here when you fish, but the dam here holds a lot of big fish. The Barbel and Common Carp here are huge and the place is not often fished so it has the potential There are a lot of Kurper here as well... I have fished here once and lost a nice size Carp... There is a lot of structure on the left hand bank and throwing Barbel baits towards the island in the corner of the dam should get you some nice pick ups!

Hey WK,

i fished there years ago, a friend had a property overlooking the place, very pretty. we had provincial licences and were asked to leave by 2 guards with dogs.

do they issue their own licences? i remember seeing some huge barbel and carp

Hi Rockspider... I know the guards there are quite hectic, the last time I went there (Not to fish) I spoke to some guys there and they informed that all I need is a freshwater angling license as a friend of mine was chased off there a few weeks before because he didnt have a license!

Since they have redone it I havent heard about any problems... Saturdays and Sundays are safe to fish as there are plenty of people around and guards on duty  :-)

Guys there are huge bass in that dam, when I used to live in Lomardy east some 12 years ago , fished their often , and often the bass were so big on the strike that they would snap the line right at your feet amongst the weeds. Im not sure but at that time it was regulated by a bass fishing club called "Ultimate Angling" I think Rustyhis name  was the guy who was the founder of the club. Black zeppa spotted spinners worked the best the ones with the orange dayglo dots on them.
Hope the bass are still there?
cheers

Pray, please tell me where I can obtain said piece of parchment, for Gauteng, Free State, Mpumulanga and North West Provinces :cnfzd :cnfzd

For truly I say to thee, the Post Office knoweth nowt 'bout such documents, and the local purveyors of fishing paraphanelia aven less. :unhap <: :hehe:
If we caught fish on every trip, it would be called " Catching". We don't, and that's why it's called "Fishing".

ah yes, the fabled licence. do they exist ?  perhaps only in the world of Casper the friendly .........and friends :)
i managed a coastal licence but no one had any info any provincial freshwater licences which is a nuisance as i have limited time to fish when i visit home.

an online version would be convenient. I understand not everyone has access to the web but a visit to an internet cafe would at least enable us to stay free of prosecution. over here we can buy a licence for a day however deciphering which one to buy can sometimes be tricky  - not even a call to the environment agency could shed any light for me  :crzy

if i remember correctly and i stand under correction , rusty schutte was the contact of the fishing club i was given but i did not manage to contact him.

There were discussions between the freshwater Unions and Buggerment ( Government ) about a year and a half ago, concerning fresh water liscences. The Buggermentwanted to charge around R 1200 for a year liscence country wide. :shk

There was such an outcry, especially as to how the 1.2 Billion would be used to benefit the anglers paying the fees that the whole scenario seems to have come to a grinding halt.

The last “STORY” that came my way was that a bunch of licence books were stolen and then sold again, therefore the “Government officials” who are “supposed” to police this would be given books and if you are found without a licence they have to be in a position to sell you one there and then.

Fact – there is a fishing shop in Shakespeare road in Vanderbijlepark that can sell you a licence, apparently licences are enforced in the area mainly on the locals who fish for the pot.

Bass lake force you to buy a “fishing permit” for the day, “from them” personally I feel this is a way of inflating the high fees that they are already asking.

This is true, the shop is Varswater Paradys, my local tackle shop. However, Suzette had liscence books for the Freestate, Gauteng & Mpumulanga, as all three provinces border on the Vaal Dam.
Where the revenue went from these liscences , you will have to ask Suzette, ?

What I do know, is that if you are fishing somewhere and an "official" asks you for your freshwater liscence, the reply is: I can't get one anywhere, I have tried, however I am willing to pay for one right now, IF you have the book and can issue me with a receipt.

If he doesn't have a book, he can't touch you.

Hi Guys,

Issue i have with this is that no one can give you a straight answer with regards to this whole license thing. I even called the post office head office.

I have also heard that if you try to act funny with these "officials" they confiscate everything you have, sometimes even your car. So not sure if "he can't touch you" applies.

Is there something that we can do legally, like pay some money to a holding account in the interim while we wait for the licence and get a receipt of payment to show the "official" to avoid any trouble??

Any legal eagles care to offer some Pro Bono advice?? PLEASE

The problem is no one knows what is actually happening and it really makes me angry because these "officials" will just come and confiscate everything but they cant help us out when you ask questions  <:
