The problem is no one knows what is actually happening and it really makes me angry because these "officials" will just come and confiscate everything but they cant help us out when you ask questions  <:

Ok, so i have sent a pleading email to members of the Dept of fisheries, department of agriculture, dept of water affairs, the post office and hopefully i will geta reply.

I also came across a document that perhaps might interest you.

got this as a reply, maybe someone can do something with this and give us some advice.

As far as I know, coastal fishing licences can be taken out at any large local Post Office.  If you do not succeed at your post office, you can visit the National Department of Agriculture, Forestry & Fisheries website:  http://www.nda.agric.za.  Select Fisheries on the left.  All permit applications can be found on their website.

As for fresh water fishing, when you visit a National Parks Board site, the guard at the gate must be able to sell you a license.  He/she is in fact not allowed to let you in if you do not have a license.  Should you be fishing at a normal resort, the resort manager sometimes will be able to sell you a license.  Should an “Official” be doing the rounds, he/she must produce an official badge, AND he/she MUST first give you the option to buy a license from them before they can give you a fine or confiscate your tackle.  I however do not know if there is someone that can be contacted on the spot should the official refuse to sell you a license.  A few years ago the license price for Fresh Water Angling were about R50.

You can also visit http://www.fishingowl.co.za.  This website is very informative.

Your local tackle shop should also be able to help you with this information.  As far as I know, they however do not sell licenses, but maybe some of the bigger shops might do.

Good luck and happy angling!!

hey guys,
i am visiting joburg in the middle of november but due to time constraints i wont be able to travel  far  or spend full days trying to wet a line.

any news on gillooly's?
i have tried doing a search on the web but the person who answered the phone at the banqueting site could not help me.

assuming i can get hold of a provincial freshwater licence, is fishing allowed at Gillooly's? any recent reports?

thanks
e

Hi Rockspider have heard about some 10kg barbel and 7kg Carp coming out recently...

Your best bet is to try and get a hold of the ownder of Gilloolys Farm... He will grant you permission to fish or tell you where to get a license or day pass... Dont know how you would contact him though...

the barbel used to congregate at the weirs in the river, if they (both barbel and weirs) still exist. i was hesitant to walk up the river towards Bruma on my own.

email sent.

thanks, have not been there in years!
a buddy of mine used to live nearby .we would take sand roads and arrive there looking wild and worse for wear, unfortunately the place started to look the same but i believe it is looking good :)

what species do they offer? i don't mind slow fishing occasionally , cant always have it hot and brag friendly. duh
i'll be in touch soonish with dates etc.

Awesome not a problem...

They have a 9 dams in the public dams with carp barbel bass and some trout but they should all be gone soon...

Then there is the members area with 4 dams... If you are up for some night fishing I could organise something through management and get some big carp and babrbel... Barbel guaranteed and small carp guaranteed...
