The regular police (dressed in grey and usually carrying AK-47s), CAN NOT perform those duties... they may ask for your ID/passport and that's it!!!!!
The new Moz Road Code has entered into force last Friday... with minor additions....* No speaking on the cellphone while driving;* No headphones (whatsoever: mp3, cellphones, etc);* No TV in the car while driving;* No throwing of rubbish out the window;* Transport of alcoholic beverages in the passengers compartment is forbidden (everything should go into the cargo compartment)!* No one can consume alcohol while the vehicle is in motion (passenger or not!)!* Don't put your elbow out the window...* No hooting (unless in emergency situations)!* All occupant must have their seat belts on!Also, those driving through Maputo, notice that major avenues have been turned into one-way to facilitate traffic!
You forgot to add that the laws only apply to SA registered cars!!
Ya John, the comment was a bit 'tounge in cheek'. I have been to Mozambique quite a lot since 1997(almost every year) and the conditions of some of those local vehicles going past checkpoints boggles the mind!! Especially further up near Inhambane/Maxixe.
