Tying Braid onto your hook?

i use a 7 turn uni... for everything....

I've been fishing with 9lb braid, 15lb braid and recently 80lb braid for galjoen.

9lb braid, no leader, 1 ounce sliding sinker, 7 turn uni to swivel, 50cm .50 maxima, 2/0 mustad demon circle, sandprawn.  I've caught more white stumpnose than i care to count on this combination.  Very very seldom has it broken anything.

15lb braid, no leader, 2 ounce sliding sinker, 7 turn uni to swivel, 50cm .50 maxima, then depending on species hooks.  Caught one geelbek, plenty stumpnose even a smooth hound and a cob.  Yet to have the knot or braid fail and i gave the geelbek serious stick to get it into the boat before it got taxed.

80lb braid for galjoen, .70 mm leader, 3 turn uni nylon side, 7 turn uni braid side back to back.... yet to have the leader connection pop and fishing for gallies i've been stuck plenty.... .50 sinker trace and .55 hook trace.

When doing this knot in braid, double the line before you make the knot.

Correct. If I don't snell knot my steel traces, I use same knot on my steel, but just 3 turns. Easier than a figure 8 to me. I then put a crimp sleeve over the tag end and trace and push flat gently for a neat trace.

Also, if done right, the tag end lies next to the trace, perfect for rigging worm baits and prawn as the tag end stops the bait from sliding down, if bait is threaded up the hook and then up the line so minimum cotton is required. With salted wonderworm or moonshine, no cotton.

interesting.
recently, at st lucia, i used the polamar straight to the spoon swivel.
no bite off yet.

if the shad are thick and the teeth flying, then bite offs occur more frequently

and yes, i did see it was the fresh water section
also use the knot when catching carp.

Thanks for the info guys, I'll try the uni. I have not had any bite offs on braid just the knot cutting through its self.
