The basic profile.
The Rosewood is extremely dense and oily and will take a lot of sanding to remove the slightest tool marks

Mike, I am a bit worried about the weight of the Rosewood. Although it is the intention to drill holes
to reduce weight.

Another consideration is to make a "hub" and "rim" in Rosewood and fix the hub to the rim
with 4 German Silver spokes. May even etch some decorations into the metal.

I decicded to make the hub from polyurethane so that a fairly tight press fit around the bearings
of the spindle can be achieved. A similar tight fit would probably cracked a wooden hub.
The PU hub was fixed with to the "rim" with decorative spokes and SS rods. The black spokes are made from
African Blackwood  (Dhalbergia spp). At R 500 000.00/m3 its the most expensive wood
available. I saw a 450mm X 60 X 60 mm the other day selling at R800.00. However,
I bought a bag-full of off-cuts in CT a few years ago for R40.00.

To sensure that the reel spins true, I used an old lathe trick and glued the assembly
to the wooden face plate of the lathe with a sheet of paper in between. After the hole was bored and
the reel trimmed to run true again, a knife was inserted between the reel and face plate and with
a light tap with a hammer, the paper split in half.
