Yup, Dugong’s tip is what I would do with those cuttlefish. Rig 5 of them with 1 meter spacers (preferably reverse rig them) and then use a small kona at the end..it will make a great sailfish teaser, especially in flat to calm seas.
The softies brought me back to very found memories as I used them a lot in the early to mid 90´s and was the lure I mostly used on my first trip to Almirante Leite back in January 1992. It caught YFT like there was no tomorrow, biggest at 38 kilos.
I never used any weight on it, it should work fine as it is, but not in all sea conditions. I used to rig them with two 8/0 7732 Mustad at 180 but would probably just use a single stiff hook right at the back nowadays. I also caught a lot of fish with it off Inhaca in those days…had a white and red and a blue and white!!!
As with small Moldcraft they should also work great if you take the inner skirt and use a strip bait or ballyhoo inside…in this situation I would use 2 hooks.
