Bennie, there are shorter bent butts you get specifically for stand up rods for use with Black magic etc. They are not the long banana butts you get on the long chair rods.

He doesn't have a BM either as far as I know! Using a standard buckets with a shoulder harness.

On this trip the guys brought their own rods and 1 BM + 1 Alutecnos, but yes I used a standrd bucket and harness for the 1st 2hrs and then changed to the Alutecnos

How was the Alutecnos compared to the BM?

Black Magic is definately better by a long shot, reason is that the alu plate on the Alutecnos digs into you as it moves to much and you cannot sit down as then the harness slides up, on the Black Magic this does not happen and so it is more comfortable and you can sit or stand. These problems reveal themselves when you have extreme 17Kg and more drag pressure.
I am definately getting BM on my boat.

Real nice to catch those monsters just a pity I missed out I had to be at a wedding. Well-done Mike and  John
Those semi bend  buds Tiagra 80 was developed for stand-up fighting. Unfortunately the BM went with me but the BM is better than the Alutecnos
