Tackle and Tool storage on a kayak
« on: February 26, 2011, 04:30:32 PM »
Tyrone ter Bruggen had the idea of storing tackle and tools on the inside (underside) of the
hatch cover.
The idea was to have removable storage rack that could be "loaded" prior to a fishing trip
and, afterwards, be removed and rinsed with a hose pipe with the contents.

I made him one and now I also made one for myself.
The base of the storage rack was cut from a cheap plastic shoe rack.
The base is fixed to the underside of the hatch cover with Velcro

For transparent containers I cut sections from plastic bottles. The choice of sizes and shapes
is almost endless in and around the kitchen

The edges of the larger containers were cast in polyurethane to stiffen them.
The edges were also stapled prior to casting to ensure a firm grip of the polyurethane.
A flexible, transparent "lid" was also cast in and secures to the container with  Velcro

A slotted, U-shaped piece of Perspex serves a lure holder

Selected components are secured to the base with cable ties and the whole assembly
stuck to the hatch cover with the Velcro

Excellent ideas, especially on a ski where storage space is limited. :sml:
