Re-Furbed Rods
« on: February 15, 2011, 07:54:59 PM »
Kumz this is for you....

This rod is a Fenwick that broke right where the curved figthing butt screws on.
I removed the guides, sanded the blank, covered it with flexcoat except where the guides goes on and sanded it smooth afterwards to get a matt finish.

The guides I had pebble blasted and wanted them chromed again, long story short I ended up having them powdercoated. Made an aluminium shaft/spigot to fit the bottom of the blank to not have it break agian and then it was a case of putting everything back together.

Here are some pics....

I should probably try do it myself - or maybe not. It's on of those really old brown glass rods, but I still love it for whipping a spoon. The varnish is half gone, all the metal is going green... maybe the old lady needs a professional job :)

Hard taking a good pic of a rod?

Right here is an old 5wt Xplorer Fly Rod.

The old Fuji Wannabe seat gave problems and I removed it, sanded the blank down, made a new grip, and replaced the guides and seat.

Have a look....
