Blacktail on dropshot
« on: February 12, 2011, 08:21:43 PM »
The Missus asked me to take her for a walk on the beach this evening in front of our house. I took my ultralight drop shot rod along and flicked a 2" camo worm on a 1/8th oz jig head into the surf as we walked along. Had a cou[ple of worm tails chomped off then started catching some little blacktails, great fn on the light tackle....

Thanks Mike, I agree they are everywhere and can really provide some fun on light tackle. I think they are my daughter's favourite fish, as they don't take long to bite...

True , when the waters are quiet and conditions not so good the blacktail always provide lots of fun on the light tackle and it seems the camo worm is there favoured target , they just cant resist them.

After struggling for a while to catch anything on dropshot, a blacktail finally took pity on me and took my camo worm.  Since then its been my favourite fish on DS.  Hoping to change that too some decent size  :gt: soon.  Nudge, nudge Tommo.   :hnthnt:

Ha Rods, you are definitely going to improve on your personal best next month! I am going to make sure that you catch something special, and you will have it on DVD to relive whenever you feel like it.
Lets just hold thumbs that the weather plays along and no cyclones come along... I have a good feeling about the trip. Linene is an excellent destination, with lots to offer. With your enthusiasm and keenness, there is nothing that will stop you from getting some great fish.

Catching blactail on ultrlite with camo worm is what i spend most of my time doing - only becasue its the most efficient way of fishing while walking my dogs (with wife in tow) 3 times a week on the Bluff in Durban for about an hour per walk. While walking I  make a cast every now and then in the gullies - and if I find a shoal I spend a few minutes there , catch a few - then carry on walking. I often catch other species as well  - but mainly blacktail. Of course, I do other lure fishing furterh away from Durban, without dogs (or wife) in tow....then I go heavier and cast further - and spend more time.

But, blacktail on ultralite is what keeps me busy when I am not able to do serious fishing

Nice fish Tommo, some people take walking sticks when going for walks, others such as yourself are blessed to be able to take a flick stick with....  :hehe:

I don't even bother taking a drop shot rod with me to go fishing if i don't have camo worm handy

If people concentrated on the really important things in life, there'd be a shortage of fishing poles
