Struisbaai
« on: January 31, 2011, 02:58:42 PM »
Dear All

I am going to Struisbaai the first two weeks in March 2011.
I have never been there so I do not know what to expect, what to target, what bait to use, what the best wind direction is, where to get bait ect ect.

I would very much like to get stuck into a shark or flattie, but any edibles would also be nice.

Thanks in advance.

Hi Bamboesvis

Species to target- raggies! Black pylie, Bronzie and if nothing else is biting- Sandies.
Edibles will be Cob, shad etc, (This list is not exhaustive- others can feel free to add)

Bait is chokka, pilchard, bloodworm for edibles and Mackerel, yellowtail, Bonnies, mullet for in eds.

Where to fish: To the left of Nostra restaurant if you are looking towards the sea there is a sand beach. Start at Argonouta Bay and work your way away from the restaurant until you fins a bord with a "B" on it. We call it the B Board. I haven't fished of the rocks there yet so hopefully someone else can help you there.

Just don't target the black pylies inside the harbour! They are like pets to the locals. Don't have any experience fishing from the harbour wall, but think you can target cob and flat fish.

Hi there,Struisbaai was put there for when the GOD"S went on pension, it;s possibily the most beutiful and serene place, a friend of mine has a cottage down there, half way between Cape Augalas and Struisbaai, if u can tell me closer to the time i'll see if he's going to be there and u can maybe meet up with him, he's also in the proses of finishing off his boat, so who knows maby some thing will come of it. best of luck :shrk: :yft:

Ray, have some cred for offering to stay another day and help a fellow angler.
The rocky area to the right in Ray's photo is called "Die Las" and you can target Leervis there with artificial lures or live bait. Also a very good place to try is "Die Brood". It is situated on your way to Aghullas just before you get to the last turn which is called "Spook Draai". Go at low tide and look for a rock that is shaped like a French loaf. Stand directly behind it and keep an eye out for rogue waves. It is a safe spot but you cannot be too careful. Fish for Kob and Elf with Pilchard and Chokka or an Octopus leg if you can get.  :grk:

Thanks SAFISH

Is it safe to fish from the harbour wall at night?
Or will I get robbed or mugged?

It is safe but always keep your eyes open. Criminals tend to shy away from vigilant people. I have fished there a lot and never had any problems.  :sml:

BAie dankie Spottie

What bait should one use for the different species?
Are there good tackle shops in Struisbaai where I can get bait and tackle?
