I have no idea and being a bit of a noob with reels I always try not to force things because that normally means I have messed up somewhere but this one just slid right in. Fortunately no lasting damage

Howsit Chaps.
Great Tut Reefs... Really a valuable source of info, and if it wasn't for this thread i would've been properly in the bush!
My neighbor came knocking the other day and asked me if i would be interested in buying a reel (Tor30) from him, still not too sure what the reason was, but i need your help wrt a general 2nd hand price you think i should offer him...

Cosmetically the reel is still very neat with a few light hairline scratches on the body... It is loaded with whiplash backing, topped with KF high abrasion and a new wind on leader... All seems good on the outside...

When i entered the reel specs on the search bar above i found this TUT and decided to strip the reel to see if it was as neat on the inside as it is on the out...  Just as well, plse see pics below...

I have since rebuilt it and replaced the old washers with new carbontex.

Any idea why these old drag washers have broken up and been damaged like this???

Tyrone , looks like the washers were never regreased there whole life and became dry / brittle with time and use and then subjected to heat build -up when on with a fish , finally gave up and detoriated / broke up eventually.

Thanks Mike....
They were slightly greasy, but properly worn smooth and thin... Assuming the guy got properly stripped by some big nunus...

High time I learnt to service my own tor30, what are the specs of the grease I should use? anything I might find in my local hardware shop? Im assuming I can use the Daiwa oil or will the shimano spit it out  :hehe:

Any decent oil is good.
Any of the commercial greases are good too... Surecatch, Daiwa, Kingfisher grease etc. Use a Teflon grease preferably for the Drag washers (like Cal's).

I would recommend replacing all Torium drag washers as soon as you get the reel. The Standard Dartanium washers are rubbish. Very fragile and brittle and they cause snatching of the drag under pressure.
