My Cuda Trace

Ok so here's my cuda trace.

Figure : 1 What's needed
# 11 & # 6 wire
Small Power swivel
1/2 ounce barrel sinker (not in pic)
2 x treble hooks
# 5 single hook
Fly-tying cotton
Clear glue
Dusta
Round long-nose plyers

Figure: 2
cut a piece of # 11 wire and insert it in to the barrel sinker as shown.
Pull it all the way through until the end loop prevents you from pulling any further.

Make a loop in the end of the double tag-end and insert both ends of the wire through the  eye of the hook so that the hook shank can be bent over along the double wire.

Bend the hook shank back over so that it lies on the double # 11.
Use the cotton to secure the hook and place a drop of clear glue to hold the cotton in place.

add 2 x pieces of # 6 wire to the looped end by means of Haywire twist.
Length of these strands will depend on the size of bait being used.
As per normal, have one hook slightly further back than the other.

To the single hook end and the relevant loop, attach your main wire that will be attached to your power swivel and main line.

Before adding your swivel, add a dusta or glow bead.

The single does hold pretty well at a slow troll.
I've never had the mouth open on me (....as sexy as that sounds)

I close it with a cable tie over the mouth behid the hook. Just me, but I find my baits last longer, swim better.....

Im trying to decide if I like the two side trebles coming off the bottom of the sinker as opposed to the eye of the front hook like its usually done.

The cable tie idea will work if you need to go a bit faster, Mike F I must agree, I am not fond of wire on wire, I have tried it before and the wire has broken off.

Also the angle of the treble wires are worrying me a bit, they come from the bottom across the bait up to the top.

Have you never had issues with fish shaking hooks because of that sinker in that position. I used a very similar trace and got hooks shaked out big time. These days I make sure my sinker can slide out of the way or that it can break off in the event of a strike.

Weather was a pleasant surprise this morning..
On the water Saturday for sure!!

The sinker doesn't become a prob as it actually slides right under the fold of chin of the mackerel and when in place properly, is actually unobtrusive and holds the mouth closed.
Doesn't seem to interfere with the bite.

I know the wire-on-wire theory but I haven't had a problem with it breaking yet.
We had a 150kg Hammer put on the pressure with no problem.
Trace has been responsible for a 20kg wahoo and a 30kg croc so seems to work ok ....for now.

R/s style when sliding, we also use a cable tie below the top hook, not only stops the jaws from opening, it stops the hook from moving/coming out as well.

Great Trace Mr T, Will make some soon as the couta were out there today, got about 12 today, but on the small side,  three were nice size about 7kg.... So will have to get some traces ready e.g Mr T traces and got some rigged mozzie ready using Mike's trace,,,, found the couta were taking on a fast trawl like you would trawl for snoek..... So hope the two traces will allow me to trawl faster and will have some cable tie on the boat too.... Will try it out SOOOOON but heard a strong N.E is on it way,,,,,, Maybe after xmass.

I only see this now, really like the way you attach the barrel to the single, very neat! I may adapt it for other stuff I am thinking of (stealing with my eyes).
