I take the empty spool out the reel, cover the shaft with cloth and insert it into a drill. The spool that has the new line on, use your clamp magodie and insert that into either a vice, or preferably, another clamped drill. Now use the drill in your hand to wind the line on. The drill that has the spool of line clamped in it, runs in reverse, so it puts a perfect amount of tension onto the new line. Perfect for spooling new braid especially, and also new line. It winds it on like a mackine would, (like a new spool of line) much better and straighter and tighter than you could ever do it with a reel.
