dont know for sure.
all i do know, is that this old man used the non-return and normal cone sinkers.
back in 1998 he would have reached the back line with his shad, while i was still struggling to get mine through the first wave.
just for interest sake, you can use more then one non return on your line.
back in 1999 i still used cone sinkers. the one afternoon at st lucia with a pushing tide, i managed to slide a mullet through the waves. it was late afternoon.
i got a pull, but my drag was set too tight and the fish dropped the bait.
not wanting to go trough it all again, a clipped a new fresh mullet onto the line and slided it out.
it wasn't 5 minutes and i had a pull again. this time the drag was set lighter. the fish was given line and i set the hooks.
it was a good pull on my 16 foot purglass castmaster rod.
i eventually landed the fish, a salmon of 23kg.
the first mullet was still on the hooks and had bite marks "pin holes", so i could only imagine, that it was the same fish.
so, got the fish and both my live bait traces.
this was on a sandy beach.
i wount do it at Cape Vidal or First Rocks.
